Biden* Loses His Train of Thought Visiting Amtrak
Quote:Joe Biden was in Philadelphia today at the 30th Street Amtrak station to recognize Amtrak’s 50th Anniversary and to push for his $2.3 trillion infrastructure bill, according to CBS.

Biden has a long relationship with Amtrak. For the years that he was in Congress and in the White House, he would often take Amtrak back and forth from Washington, D.C. to Delaware. He’s proposing $80 billion dedicated specifically to Amtrak as part of the infrastructure plan.

But as Biden was talking about that history and what he did with Amtrak under Barack Obama, he started rambling. You can see he closes the book with the prepared remarks he just delivered, then starts speaking off the cuff. That’s when he gets into trouble.

“When I was Vice President with Barack, he allowed me to put together a budget for Amtrak and it had money for high speed rail at 200 MPH, from…Charlotte, another line going from…in Florida, down to Tampa, another line — if we had moved…we’d have that tunnel fixed in New York now.”

I’m sorry, this is gobbledegook. He clearly lost his train of thought. He doesn’t appear to understand Tampa is in Florida and I have no idea what a tunnel in New York has to do with a trip presumably through Florida.

People tried to figure it out, but it was definitely a challenge.

Let’s play more of what the heck did he just say? Someone want to factcheck this nonsense? If you’re able to decipher what he says?

Now, this one, fair warning, Biden imitates an Italian accent and pinches his own cheek.

What must foreign leaders think of all this? Is this what going off the rails looks like?

That was certainly a train wreck.

Joe Biden Promotes $80 Billion Spending Plan for 50th Anniversary of Amtrak

Quote:President Joe Biden celebrated Amtrak’s 50th anniversary Friday, detailing plans for $80 billion in federal spending for the passenger train system.

“I’ve been riding an Amtrak for almost as long as there’s been an Amtrak,” Biden said.

The president spoke at the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, recalling his long history of traveling to Delaware on the train from Washington, DC, when he was a senator.

He recalled that he only ended up in Philadelphia if he slept through the Delaware stop.

“I only did it about four times,” Biden said.

Calling out Amtrak officials by name, Biden spoke about the importance of the train system to his daily life.

“Amtrak wasn’t just a way of getting home,” he said. “It provided me, and I’m not joking, [an] entire other family.”

Amtrak is heavily subsidized by the federal government to keep afloat, as political figures like Biden dream of restoring rail travel as a preferred traveling option. While the elite enjoy high-speed trips aboard the Acela train from D.C. to New York City, millions of taxpayers help prop up a system that few will ever use.

Biden promoted his $80 billion investment plan into Amtrak as part of his infrastructure proposal, which would build new train routes in cities across America.

He urged Americans to dream with him about a train traveling at speeds of 220 miles an hour or trains linking Chicago and Detroit or even a train between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, which he said could be “pretty popular on Fridays.”

“We have a huge opportunity here to provide fast, safe, reliable, clean transportation in this country,” he stated.

Biden said he is envious of China for its 23,000 miles of high-speed rail, calling for similar government spending programs.

“We’re behind the curve. But, folks, as I said the other night, America is on the move again,” he said.

He probably also forgot to tell people that his numbnut of a son was on the Amtrak board.

Trivia question, what retard nominated him to the board? You've seen a lot of him lately. Wonder why?

The problem with Amtrak is simple.

It costs too much and takes too much time as compared to bus, air or car. There are a FEW routes where it could make sense.,..
DC to NYC 5/21... $87 non-stop American Airlines 1:12
DC to NYC 5/21... $79 Amtrak 2:28

Is an hour of your time not worth $8?

How about this?
FlixBus, $20 4:40 but you're also in Midtown, not Newark.

DC to LA?? Hou? Chi? Not even in the conversation.

SOMEONE please tell me what the point of a subsidy is if it still doesn't make the event competitive??

For most of the country, the routes are stupid. If I wanted to go to Vegas or the west coast out of Memphis, I have to travel to Chicago or New Orleans first. I'd have to do that if I wanted to go to little rock. There is no west west corridor out of west tn.

So, if I want to go to Vegas, its a two day trip that costs more than if I flew and got there in four hours.

Also, some destinations will require you to get off of the train and take a bus ride. For the price of first class, you get to travel part of the way in a sewer smelling bus.

Its as if board members of Amtrak who came up with this setup spent a lot of time smoking crack and getting pegged by hookers.

Are you just assuming strolling right up the airport at takeoff?

You generally have to be at the gate 30 (45 in NY) minutes before takeoff. If you don't have ez pass or whatever you have to wait for security. You parking? Another haul.

Basically having to get to the airport 1:15 to 2 hours before a flight.

Then, you realize Union Station (train) is in the heart of DC, while Reagan is across the Potomac and Dulles is almost 40 miles from DC proper.

In NY, the Amtrack goes right into Manhattan.

For a 12:00 pm flight, you have to get there at 10:15, you arrive at 1:12 then have get off the plane, get through the airport, then take transportation to get to city center (likely where most people using trains are goin) another 45+ minutes.

So, basically you're "in transit" from 10:15-2:00. 3:45 minutes.

Train: Get there 30 minutes early. In transit from 11:30-2:28. 2:58 in transit.

I'm waiting for you to dispute my comment, as opposed to merely arguing with the meaningless details.

As I said, There are a FEW routes where it can make sense... and I gave you one... It's debatable. Are you really shocked that politicians made sure that their common routes were taken care of?? How many people live in the heart of DC though, as opposed to coming in to town where they might pass right by Reagan or BWI?? Is that really a good argument? I even gave you that the bus, like the train puts you in mid-town. The bus is $20. The train is 80. How much is your time (and perhaps comfort) worth? Is it worth $60 to you to save an hour?? Maybe, maybe not. How many of you are traveling? I didn't even mention cars. 4 people can travel in a car with ZERO 'pre-arrival' time... no need for luggage transfers etc. Parking would be expensive, but still not likely more than the cost of the other 3 people traveling.

I gave you perhaps THE best situation for meaningful Train travel vs air, and you need to get into trivialities to dispute that its 'debatable'?

How about you apply your analysis to NY-Chicago? It's 20+ hours. It's 70 hours to LA. You want to argue about how early you have to arrive for a flight now?

Whoa.

I was reading your singular post for what it was saying. I was just noting that airfare requires a lot of stupid b.s. irrespective of "flight time."

Driving to Atl is almost better than flying when I have to take into consideration getting to the airport. Parking, getting through security. *Hoping* there isn't a delay. Getting squeezed next to some a-hole who decided to eat his Whopper on the plane. The deplaning, leaving, getting a uber....The 45 minute flight ends up being three hours of transit vs. 5:35 and a few $$ cheaper.

But, no, the routes are plain stupid.

Biden* is so embarrassing. This must be how the Russians the last few years Leonid Brezhnev.

Funny how he was put in charge of an Amtrak budget by Obama and his coke-head loser son was on the Amtrak board.

Just a CRAZY coincidence. Nothing to see here.

It was Obama trying to follow 120 year old routes when everything went through Chicago and helping his corrupt Chicago buddies.
