Dou you know if we threw our hat in the ring for hosting? Last i heard from grapevine we aren't interested in hosting but things might have changed.

College baseball stats are very archiac but I was able to find some.
We are 2nd in the country in slugging percentage and 16th in OBP. This team absolutely rakes. They have 11-12 guys that have really good numbers.

Not sure where you heard that but I was at the ODAF event Friday at the Bud and was told we are interested in hosting. Was there for the double header on Saturday as well. The rally alley was packed all weekend.

I'm not sure what you mean by archaic, the NCAA has all the stats you want a more in pretty easy to use format. We're also second in HR's and 24 in team batting average.

That sounds great and if we can host that will be a new chapter in the books for ODU Baseball. Hopefully it does happen and Norfolk Regional has a nice ring to it.

They certainly don't have all the state you want and more :)
Batting average is completely useless in baseball. If I had it my way, they would have a nice OPS figure to sort. (though that has its limitations bc many players play in hitters or pitchers parks, which have a huge impact on the statistics. And that doesn't even get into difficulty of competition. An OPS+ or RC+ or such would be the ideal stat to have but Im not familiar with anyone doing this for college.
P.S. Does anyone know if our park is a hitter or pitcher park? I know the new contruction affected the wind (used to blow in from right).

Well it has the two stats you quoted and much more. You acted like you scoured the internet to come up with that.

The Bud plays extremely small when the wind blows out. The wind has tended to blow from left to right for the most part this year. There’s a reason why ODU has the CUSA leader in homers and has already broken the program record for HR in a season. Anyone in the lineup can go deep.
Conventional wisdom should say it wouldn’t bode well for the pitchers, but ODU’s pitchers have overall done a good job keeping their pitches lower in the zone and mixing in their off-speed stuff and breaking pitches to keep the opposition off balance.

That makes the pitching more impressive. They have given up an OPS of .642, which is really good....especially in a hitters park.

The team played great at home against Charlotte. The pitchers were throwing strikes and helping to keep the opponent off the scoreboard, the Monarchs were getting lots of base hits, and the team was scoring lots of runs.
No special stats are needed to tell us how they looked over the weekend, or how the season is going thus far (and why). It's an easy game to follow and understand how things are going just by looking at it with your eyes in real time, and post game by simply looking over the box score.

RE: 2021 BASEBALL
Just thinking about taking a Top-25 team to the woodshed with a 24-4 beatdown in the last two games, just over 12 innings. That's two runs an inning. I thought I heard when Justin V was here, the Bud was a pitchers park, maybe it's changed.

For ODU's pitchers it was a pitcher's park those two games. Giving up just 4 runs in two games was outstanding against a very good Charlotte team.

The worst hitter in our lineup yesterday is hitting .293/.385/.389. So the worst hitter is avoiding outs in 40% of his at bats. Thats pretty damn impressive.
Pretty solid depth on the pitching side as well that should help in the tourney.
Starters:
Gregory (dominating), Moore, Gertner, Pantos
The biggest issue for us, imo is we don't have a ton of good relievers if they can get the starter out of the game. But, in the tourney, they will probably move around some starters to come out of the pen, if possible.

Why not on ESPNU? We have the ranking and power tools. Look into it, Wood.
