I came over from BearcatNews in 2004.

I think I had the same handle there.

My buddy PieHole convinced me to come over, and then he quickly got banned!

I go back to the voy days. There were some active posters that don’t post here very often (e.g., icehole). A fair number have passed away since the very early days.

In the old days, we used to have quite a few get togethers. People would swap stories, drink beer, and what not. There was also a group of old guys who got together about once every six weeks. Sadly, I’m the only one left. Everyone else passed away.

In the old days, we had some very active women who posted. Sully who was from OK, I think. Leah was the official “I love Meeker” stalker. She was a very nice young lady. There were others as well.

Remember getting together with Sully, Gruehls and a few others before Midnight Madness at Meck Gardens i think back in the early 2000 and Jason Maxiell's Mom came too!

I go back to the Voy and Jax days as well.

I’ll have to dig up the photo from the first time I met, QSec, Gruehls, Dan, BillyDon, CTip, Chad B, Mark, Sub, Dave and the gang down at the Beer Cellar in the mid aughts. Good folks, all of em. I need to pour a little out of the bottle on the ground soon for those who sadly aren’t with us anymore.

I started out on the Scout Board in the mid 2000s. Lurked over here since then as well, just never joined until a little later. I've only met a couple people on the board (plus Subflea- RIP). I am actually very much an introvert in real life, keeping within my own circle.

RE: Transfer portal
Started with Bearcatnews right after the transition from email. I've been a lifelong Bearcat basketball fan, due to my Dad being an alum, but didn't become a true football fan until I got to UC in '96 (my starter school was in Columbus in the mid-90s - after 1 year, I came to my senses and came home to UC - would do it again 1000 times...seriously, I would!). Joined Banter in 2010, when I realized 'news was falling behind. I get great info here and try to provide my opinions, ideas and new info, when I come upon it. There's surprisingly lots of good "insider-like" info provided here, even though there aren't any true insider journalist's here. Chad provides great info over at 247 as does Justin Williams at the athletic. Many members here have been around long enough and have good enough instincts to call what's going to happen before it does, without inside connections. Others claim the sky is falling at the first drop of rain. Lots of great, diverse opinions and thoughts. It's a fun place to come and talk about the Bearcats, even if it p!sses you off sometimes. And what does this have to do with the Transfer Portal? Absolutely nothing! New thread maybe?

You guys have memories.

It says I started here in 2006. Bearcatnews sounds familiar to me. Maybe I was there.

RE: Transfer portal
This has transitioned from the transfer portal thread into the “tell me how long you have been on Bearcat Banter thread”. And it wasn’t always Bearcat Banter, there was a name change several years ago, I don’t remember what it used to be called. I used to post over on ESPN message boards until they killed that feature then came over here. Subflea used to post over there and marucscan as well.

RE: Transfer portal
Just to ease anyone's worries, there are still some really strong names entering the portal regularly. Seems like the Verbal Commits Twitter account adds a new name every hour. Hoping we hear some chatter about our staff being involved with some starting-caliber players in the coming weeks. I have a feeling our roster is not yet complete, but we now have the roster stability to take swings on high-level transfers. I'm pretty giddy to see who we might end up with!

I’d take that with a grain of salt. I probably could have played basketball at Shawnee St.

Yeahhhh...we had a kid at the HS I coach football for who was the 7th man for our basketball team who wasn't all that great in it's own right who ended up at Shawnee State a few years back.

RE: Transfer portal
NAIA isn't the greatest competition, but the best teams in NAIA are competitive with good NCAA DII schools and even some bottom-feeder DI schools. I would certainly approach with caution given that, but Onu is going to have a lot of suitors. From ESPN:

"At 240 pounds with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Onu's combination of size, length, rim-protection prowess and 3-point range will make him one of the most coveted big men on the transfer market. Texas Tech, Indiana, Ohio State and LSU are some of the schools that have already expressed interest in recruiting him, with more expected as the news spreads of his availability."

RE: Transfer portal
He's 6'11" and shot 40% from 3-point range this season (on 130 attempts). That alone is intriguing.

But can he really play down low for an NCAA tournament team? He averaged 4.5 blocks per game, but that's easy for anyone his height in NAIA ball. Worth taking a look. Especially considering that he's right next door and he's a one year rental at a position of desperate need.

I started out on the Scout Board also. I have been a few user names on here. When I have left companies I have lost my email access so had to make new user names.
