And the AAC expansion happens as soon as the ink is dry on the new CFP pact. The AAC can help itself over the next two seasons by scooping up the NY6 games and winning them.

Boise, San Diego State and a third program (Colorado State would likely be my preference though Air Force is intriguing).

14-team league with two seven team divisions.

In order to go East/West you really need more than 14. The dream would be to add Boise, SDSU, CSU, like you suggested along with BYU, UNLV and AFA football paired with Gonzaga.

Basketball would be a full round robin 16 game schedule. No divisions for football but install protected rivalry. 2 highest rated teams playing for the championship regardless of record or head to head with the winner going to the playoff.

14 seems like the ideal number among the P5 conferences, and it would work just fine for the AAC:

..West............................East

Houston........................Cincy
Tulsa.............................UCF
SMU..............................USF
Navy/Wichita...............Memphis
Boise St.......................Tulane
AFA/Gonzaga................Temple
SDSU (or BYU/CSU)........ECU

.

Strong conference but switch Memphis and Navy. I want Memphis in the west. Navy is in Annapolis. That's the east. No special favors.

The AAC already gave Navy a special favor when it honored Navy's request to put it in the west division for FB to play similar schools such as SMU, Tulane, and Tulsa. It was part of the negotiation to get Navy to join. You would also have to flip Wichita which is in the west too to balance BB and the Olympic Sports. That doesn't make sense for travel for the Olympic Sports. 07-coffee3

If keeping Navy in the West is what it takes to keep them in the AAC, then there's practically no chance that they will move to the East.

It would be fun to do something entirely out of the box that would shake things up. I once read a theoretical proposal for "PODS". every year regrouping teams based on their last season rankings or preseason projections. That way you were always making sure that the top teams had the strongest schedule possible and looked as good as possible to the eye test evaluators. Certain rivalries would be protected.

Geographical dispersion makes that a little more difficult but could be ameliorated by having the conference retain some of the dispersal funds set aside for travel costs for what ever team was traveling.

The biggest issue with travel is not the costs involved though. It is the "academics" complaining about missed class room time for the student athletes. Presidents of schools have to deal with a lot of that coming from the non-sports side of a school. They HAVE to give that weight if they want to keep their jobs.

Oh, come on... 03-lmfao I don't think our basketball team goes to literal "class" the whole second semester. They have tutors that travel with the team from what I've been told.

Yeah but missing classes at Memphis isn’t quite like missing classes at Harvard is it?

I'll not deny that. Memphis is no commuter college anymore, but I'll bet the majority of the faculty know where their bread is buttered. Especially the ones the BB players' student advisers steer them toward.

Yeah... I ended that sentence with a preposition... 07-coffee3

No recent rumors so I guess Boise to the AAC is squashed for another year. Is the normal NCAA college athletic year July 1st to June 30th. Nothing probably happens until the waiver is over anyway. Does that have 1 or 2 years left. 04-cheers

Oh, quite the opposite. These things happen in the dark of night amongst disguised participants. There may be an innocent looking inquiry from SMU about the Physics Department at Boise. That turns in to a secret memorandum from Aresco handed off to what appears to be a low level functionary who tutors in the lab, who immediately walks it over the the Boise Prez. Things that don't turn up in an FOIA request. Who knew Wichita was coming a few years ago? This is all behind the scenes. This thread is here to try and uncover the intrigue.

03-lmfao Yea I agree that is typically how it happens. I just love that you included the physics department. Maybe I can get involved since I did teach an entry level physics coarse at BSU before Materials and Processes.

Maybe that is why we did not get that message from the AAC that they would like to start a full sports discussion.03-idea

The top looks kinda like the "who we should be #12" debate around here. Take that list and subtract the teams already in the AAC---and at the top, you essentially have basically the same list of candidates for #12 we've been kicking around for months.

BYU
Boise
CSU

lol....Then suddenly this happens

That's the first thing I noticed. Those two get moved to behind Hawaii and Tulsa would say that's accurate top 14 prospects in some order depending on who is looking. Hawaii is too far away to be viable, Tulsa is too small a private and not a big enough metro (or controlling enough of it) to really be considered. But those twelve (minus the App and Marshall who are longer shots than Hawaii and Tulsa) would be the ones who would be up for consideration.

BYU, UCF, Houston, and Cincinnati being that top tier prospect overall. Geography will still count so it's hard to say one would be preferred over the other.

Than it's a Memphis, USF, Temple, SDSU, Boise level potential, some success at multiple sports, not quite as high end as the first tier some weakness. Again though geography; so maybe they beat out a tier 1 school like Houston because the Big XII wants someone out of Texas, or whatever.

Then the next tier could work but have a limitation of one kind or another, or just don't stand out. SMU, Tulane, CSU and the long shots Hawaii/Tulsa.

Then the flawed tier with the even longer shot App, Marshall, who just at this point have zero chance compared to say the first tier 40% second tier 20% and 5% for everyone but Tulsa and Hawaii who are 1%. Nobody is going any where though 07-coffee3

I'd also think that ECU and Navy slot in right there with USF/Temple/Tulsa/Tulane, but I'm not the Ohio Bobcats fan that created this list.

I'd also think that ECU and Navy slot in right there with USF/Temple/Tulsa/Tulane, but I'm not the Ohio Bobcats fan that created this list.

Navy would be one of the top 5-6 FB teams, but perhaps they were omitted due to not having power conference basketball.

SDSU should perhaps be #8 (not #13).

1 ucf
2 cincy
3 byu
4 houston
5 memphis
6 smu
7 boise
8 csu
9 marshall
10 app. st.
11 usf
12 temple
13 sdsu
14 tulane
15 hawaii
16 tulsa
17 ohio
18 wyoming
19 coastal
20 NDSU

This appears to be the link for the list that is being discussed, if anyone had trouble locating it:

The top looks kinda like the "who we should be #12" debate around here. Take that list and subtract the teams already in the AAC---and at the top, you essentially have basically the same list of candidates for #12 we've been kicking around for months.

BYU
Boise
CSU

lol....Then suddenly this happens

Marshall
App St

Ahhhhhh. That explains some things. I actually had no idea where this list came from.

I didn't know that for a fact. Just using context clues. A) Ohio on the list at all, B) ECU not on the list. Conclusion: Someone is still a little salty about the 2013 Beef O Brady's Bowl.

But it being a basketball list makes more sense.

Thats what I love about it all.
