Looks like he was with Miller at Greensboro before he moved to Middle Tennessee St.

I get the sense we'll be recruiting the south a lot. Wes will be able to recruit the Carolinas/Virginia region, and Morgan is from Georgia and has coaching stops in GA, NC, AL, SC, and TN, so I would expect him to recruit a lot in the deep south. Mike Roberts and Wes Miller are also New Hampton School (New Hampshire) grads, which is where MAW came from. They put out a ton of D1 talent, so I imagine we'll try to go back to that well in the future.

Interesting that neither were named as Associate Coach...could be just an error on the reporting individual's part or could mean he is fishing for a bigger 3rd man on the bench.

Naive question here. The program gets three full assistants, correct? And, what else? Director of Basketball Operations, Strength and Conditioning, Recruiting Coordinator? Is there a limit on the total number of staff, or on specific roles?

Not sure if there is a limit other than only being able to have 3 assistants, but including the strength coach, I've seen staffs ranging anywhere from 8-12. Head coach, 3 bench assistants, and strength and conditioning coach are all givens. Some teams will have an athletic trainer and a director of sports performance. Ops and recruiting are two common ones, as you mentioned. Analysts, scouts, player personnel, video, student-athlete development, admin, graduate/student assistants... I'm not sure what the limits are on those, if there are any.

Correct...you can have as many support/non bench roles that you want. Only limitation is the amount of money in the pool at that point, very similar to how Alabama has built out their Nick Saban Coaching Rehabilitation Program.

Bachelor of Business Administration - Marketing, North Georgia University, 2007-2010
Former Player, Kennesaw State and North Georgia University, 2006-2009

Mike Roberts
Assistant Basketball Coach, Indiana University, 2019-2021

If I'm reading your sarcasm correctly...remember Luke Fickell and Marcus Freeman when first hired?

In terms of credentials and resumes, this staff is far and away better than the last one.

I like it. I'm expecting a strong hire for the 3rd assistant spot. Hope DerMarr is included on the support staff. I know he's interviewed with Wes and has been openly expressing his desire to be involved.

Great information and I agree--these guys have earned their stripes and bring experiences from excellent programs and respected universities. I guess we're still awaiting formal announcements of these hirings by UC?

And I agree with those suggesting it's still a good idea to find a spot somewhere on the larger staff for DerMarr Johnson or someone with a strong UC connection.

I am not up at all on assistant coaches throughoutthe country, and I'm super happy with Wes Miller and excited and all those caveats so that people don't think I'm hating. That out of the way, the staff appears to be basically his staff at Greensboro from a couple years ago? Roberts looks to have a nice resume and he's coming from IU, so that's pretty big time, although things didn't go that well there for him, it appears. And Morgan has a stop at MTSU, but they have been terrible.

Those are some potential negatives. What's the best case one can make about the hirings?

(Agree that it would be very cool if Dermarr were on staff).

Those are the 2 he’s worked with in the past. Would love to know if any former UC players contacted him for an interview as he said he’d listen to any of them who had a resume for the 3rd spot.

There's some good nuggets over on BCJ about the 3rd assistant spot. I don't share information from there out of respect to Chad, but I have a feeling we will have some good news soon and we'll all be pretty happy. (No, it's not Roy Williams lol)

I believe that Wes definitely talked to DerMarr. It’ll be easy to see that he’s not yet qualified for an assistant role when you see the recruiting wins and connections of the rumored 3rd guy. Very impressive. If DerMarr really wants to be a coach he should head back to the DMV and use his local ties and work his way up.
