Did it ever come out what exactly Rice's Covid issue was?

Kentucky dominated Western Kentucky 3-0. They looked like they had 3 Nicole Lennons'

And then even though she didn't play last night, another freshman they have is Reagan Rutherford (from Missouri City). She was a stud hitter/setter for Ridge Point and was a high school teammate of Owl libero Nia McCardell (and also one year behind UT sophomore Skylar Fields). She's also the daughter of ex-Owl football player Derek Rutherford.

If things don't work out for her at Kentucky, Rutherford would be a star at Rice.

Actually, they had 5 attackers who hit better than .500. Incredible.

In the Elite 8 matches (so far today)...

- Washington ends Pitt's cinderella run.
- #4 Texas dominates #5 Nebraska, and they now go against #1 Wisconsin

From what I've seen, Wisconsin, Kentucky and UT are the class of the tournament (in that order). Would be a nice honor for the Rice ladies if Texas can take it all, and have us be their only loss of the season.

That's the best I've seen UT play. Their blocking was phenominal. We're still their only loss of the season. Having said that, Kentucky is playing out of their minds right now. Without question the best offense in the country. Will be interesting to see if Texas can slow them down.

Kentucky beats Texas in 4 games (UT won the 1st game but then UK won the last 3) to win the national title. Too bad - this was one of the few times I was actually rooting for the Longhorns.

I still think Texas making it to the finals will keep Rice in the top 25 - there certainly are no teams behind them that deserve to be in the final top 25 at this point.

Strong first set by the Longhorns, but after getting blown out in the 2nd set, their sloppiness at times kept them from taking the lead in very close 3rd and 4th sets. UK's libero badly outplayed UT's. She made numerous spectacular digs. IMO, that was the difference, though UK's offense was lethal once in got on track.

We basically flip-flopped with Notre Dame in the final poll (they beat Army in the first round in 4 sets, but then got swept badly by Oregon in the 2nd round).

NCAA Volleyball tournament 1st round
Congratulations Volleyball Owls on a solid top-25 season!

We build on this next year. Should be a preseason top 16 (if the media is paying attention) and NCAA seed and sweet 16 should be attainable goals, at the least...

Wow-- national champ and first team all-american, Avery Skinner, is departing as a grad transfer to Baylor for next season. The combination of she and Pressley is going to be something to behold. I wonder if her sister, Freshman all-conference on Kentucky, is going to join her. Yes, the Skinners are from Texas.

I know UK will be losing several key seniors, including national POY Lilley (their setter), but they still had a ton of talent returning.

Brian Skinner is her dad. He was a Baylor basketball player (a pretty good one who played in the NBA for about 10 years). He's a big guy - maybe 6-8? That's Rice-ex Deric Rutherford in the photo with him at the bottom.

So it's not surprising to me she is playing one more year at Baylor. The freshman is staying at Kentucky I believe.

Yes. The entire team returns...but that's going to be true of almost all Top 25 teams given the additional year of eligibility allowed for all winter sports.

Here's a video of our 2022 top-ranked libero recruit from Klein, Gabby Mansfield (#6). She can't get here soon enough!

Right under the link dragon posted is a link to the USA Volley Under 20 National Training Team. One of the 20 (and the only one not headed to a P5 school) is Shaylee Shore, a 6-2 MB from Prosper (Skyline Juniors Club). She's an incoming freshman for Rice. The 20 will be competing for a spot on the 12-player roster that will compete in the 2021 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship to be held July 9-18 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Kortrijk, Belgium.

As good as she appears to be, as a middle blocker, I question how much playing time she's going to get this coming season with Adekunle as the starter and Kostelecky really coming on strong late last season. Anota is an all-american, and Satasha was our best blocker last season and became a pretty efficient attacker. It would be very unusual to have a 3-person rotation at MB.
