I think Ty should leave for the pros (G-League or Europe. Probably not NBA). I hardly paid attention to this last season given how bad it was, but apparently Groce had a stellar year. Look at his stat line below. My guess is it won’t improve much from there (Maybe Murphy developed at least one player after all). He is 5 years removed from high school already, why waist another prime year of getting paid to play basketball? I hope I am wrong and he comes back, but his workouts with the team are probably in prep for leaving for pro basketball.

15.2 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.0 apg (53% fg, 34% 3pt)

Ramy you usually present cogent ideas and I appreciate and respect nearly all of your posts. This time, however, I respectfully disagree.

Ty amassed those stats in the Murphy stand around offense, playing out of position at the 5 spot. Honestly he had probably more NBA potential coming out of HS than Lee or Thompson. He is very quick for 6'8" with a nice wingspan and plenty of hops, he was fifth in the conference in blocks and twelfth in steals.

All of that said, I would expect tepid interest from the G League right now. Playing for a coach like Heath presents a unique opportunity. Stan has made it clear he wants to score the ball. Ty has a decent shooting stroke, perhaps some fine tuning could produce better results from distance. An actual offensive scheme could also allow him more opportunities to drive to the basket, where he absolutely excels. Finally Stan is coming from where Ty wants to be, he knows what the NBA is looking for and can help Groce get there.

Like you I won't blame him if he goes pro, but why put your name in the transfer portal if that is your final intention? He could have been a contributor at MSU last year for sure, but why be a 20 minute man when you can be the DUDE at EMU, a potential MAC POY?

The only part of your post that really repels me is that Murphy developed Ty, in fact he wasted him. The ONLY player that was significantly coached up better during the Murphy tenure was Toure.

Jerry, I appreciate the tact with which you disagreed. And I concede my oversight that Ty Groce is in the transfer pool- that would indicate he is not trying to go pro but rather play somewhere else. And also concede there will be some benefit to Ty playing a year with Heath guiding him to the pros, and with consider playing time, and potential accolades.

Not surprised, but too bad. I thought he might do better in a real offensive system.

Good luck kid! Thanks for the last two years...

So, where are we now?
PG - Lowder/Spottsville
SG - McBride/TBD
SF - TBD/TBD
PF - TBD/Ballard Jr.
C - Binelli/Okongo/Ballard Jr.

Yes, Binelli is my stretch 5! What a fun run and gun Center he would be.

Anyway, we have 10 scholarships available, since Binelli, Okongo, and Spottsville do not count against the cap of 13.

We need talent just about everywhere. I’m happy McBride came back. Hoping against hope that Ty does the same.

Thanks, Bovine. I used an old post which is no longer up to date (the roster will probably change at least weekly).

If there are 10 roster spots to fill then I'd like to see 7-8 transfers and 2-3 freshmen. More freshmen would be preferable but it's late in the recruiting cycle so that not likely.

Ty will be Stan's most prized recruit!

RE: 2021/2 EMU MBB Roster
Steve, thanks for the update on Noah. Though, very much a disappointment.

Bovine, I love the creativity with the rotation. Especially the “Center By Committee” in which each member is such a uniques style/skill set. Will really make it hard for opponents to prep for and can adjust balance of minutes based on the strategy for a particular opponent. Brilliant!

Jerry, I agree on Ty! Especially with Noah departing... wishful thinking, but wondering if Noah’s secession to leave is because Ty is coming back along with McBride which will squeeze his minutes.

Damn, did all of these guys come to EMU to play the zone defense? 03-lmfao

"No Zone, No Stay?" 03-lmfao

Seriously, he has already transferred. Has he already used his 'get out of jail' card?

My take Stan is bringing discipline and structure and, accountability. That may not be the flavor of the day for current players. The turnaround well it be awhile.

Pure speculation, but I wonder if McBride staying had something to do with it. Both primary ball handlers. Didn’t necessarily play great together last season, but then again, no one really did.

After Ty, Lowder was the one I was most hoping will stay on the team. McBride clearly had the better season last year over Lowder. But I still thought Lowder had promise given how strongly he fared as a freshman at Holy Cross, and with an additional year of eligibility. Was hoping to have both in the backcourt... Looking like year 1 will definitely be a rebuilding year.

F*CK!!!!!

He said he was returning on Twitter after Murphy was fired!

Oh well. As much as I loved his Holy Cross tape, he was terrible for us last year. I trust Coach Heath.

Agreed on his potential Jerry.

Don’t write off year one yet. He’s going to get A LOT of transfers.

Obligatory roster update:

PG - TBD/Spottsville
SG - McBride/TBD
SF - TBD/TBD
PF - TBD/Ballard Jr.
C - Binelli/Okongo/Ballard Jr.

We have 11 scholarships available, since Binelli, Okongo, and Spottsville do not count against the cap of 13.

Question about all of college hoops, not just EMU. Do all of these kids transferring think that if they just get the right coach or situation that they'll suddenly be a star and an NBA prospect? Or is it just the millenial way to avoid loyalty to any organization? Or are they so addicted to the attention they get when they announce their transfer and offers that they can't resist the temptation. I think it's all of the above.

Kudos to any kid that sticks with a school for 4+ years and graduates.
