Thanks for that context; I didn't see that qualifier. My main take away is how unusual this is. I think all of the hand wringing is useless, especially when you consider how it is impacting all conferences and all schools.

BINGO
Got it, so, we shouldn't be concerned at all when we have one guy over 6'6 and recruits that looked very promising with connections to our staff go elsewhere. Got it. How's your unicorn piss taste in your coffee? Maybe i should get some of that

No doubt...and with conference games starting tomorrow, there's no time to prep.
Phew.... glad i'm not the only one.

I do find a bit of irony in the excuse i heard last year for not getting bigs was he was hired too late in the recruiting year. He was hired on March 13. Here we are Mid April in the same situation(or even worse) and the answers here are "we got time". I do recognize the portal is a bit different this year....but....

Back to recruiting, we have lost 3 targets in the last week to up us with size, anyone hearing of any other offers that could look promising?

This was fantastic. I'm glad someone else sees this back and forth and laughs like I do.

RE: Basketball Recruit Updates
My take is this. Yes, we are lacking depth right now in the size department. I am absolutely concerned with that. Similar to last year, I get more concerned every time we offer/sign someone in the six foot range. I definitely understand and get that sentiment.

I'm going to go ahead and wait on hitting that "there's no bigs left to target" panic button though.

FWIW, I also didn't rush out and by 186 rolls of toilet paper and boxes of Lysol around this time last year.

Agree. It's not that I don't have concerns. It is absolutely uncomfortable having an incomplete roster and so many unanswered questions. But, we also have to let the process play out which is why I posted the information about there not being a deadline. Potentially not having a feel for our roster on the first day of class is wild.

I think the P6 schools will be the first to figure out their rosters too. With 1300 kids still in the portal, some of those guys that have heard from a P6 school will wait it out to see if they get an offer before committing to the mid-major. NCSU seems to be utilizing the portal as well as anyone early on. Hopefully the pupil is taking notes and getting advice.

But don't you find the irony in the excuse last year? Can't be lost completely.

It's a weak point. What's going on right now with the portal is unprecedented. Yes, we lost out on some recruits and yes there are still a bunch of quality players out there including bigs. Both can be true.

It's not a weak point at all. Just further highlights the moving target it is with you guys. Rules change on a daily basis of what is ok and what isn't just as long as it fits the defend coach at all cost agenda.
Again, i ask the question, any other bigs anyone knows about we are in on? Other than the kid that was Thomas's teammate?

I mean the rules literally changed for transfers yesterday so it is a weak point. Nobody is acting like we're in a good situation right now. People just get tired of your constant bickering. You clearly know how to use the internet, I'm sure you can find out who we're recruiting just a well as anyone else can.

I obviously HAVE used the internet, and i don't see anyone else listed. Thus the reason why I asked the question. You and a few others seem to follow recruiting closely, I was asking a legit recruiting question on the recruiting thread. What a novel idea?

THANK YOU!

Last year, Siddle was a new coach recruiting with a short window, without being able to have kids on campus or make in-house visits.

This year, a new rule was implemented allowing kids freedom of movement and 40% of D1 basketball players entered the portal with no deadline to commit to a new school. The situations aren't remotely similar.

Last year it was like Siddle came in to bat with runners in scoring position and 2 strikes. If you want to say he struck out, fine, but there is nuance. If you want to ignore the nuance and say "he didn't deliver" that is your prerogative.

This year, he's up to bat again and there is a rain delay but you're still ******** about the outcome. He's still in the box; let's see how it plays out.

If i had a nickel for every time i've heard "unprecedented" in the last year i could retire.

To be fair about Keatts son I think that the "offer" is a courtesy type deal to the old boss-he also has an offer from another Keatts assistant . He didn't play at all at Raleigh Broughton on a team that won 3 games and I think he has since transferred to a private school.

RE: Basketball Recruit Updates
This is from Brant in February:

Siddle On what UNCW needs in recruiting

A guy like (Delaware guard) Ryan Allen who can go get his own, I think we need a couple more guys like that; need to beef up on the inside, get tougher guys. We have a solid foundation that we can build on and I like some guys off this roster, for sure, we just need to beef up a little bit on the inside and go get some more guys that can go get it off the bounce and get their own.

Guys that I have recruited that maybe went to other places that maybe aren’t playing as much or playing at all at their universities right now that we’ll keep our eye on. Make sure that if they do come up n the transfer portal, we’ll be ready to re-recruit them and try to get them onboard. You just have to be creative and be ready to attack when the time comes.

On recruiting the Transfer Portal

Absolutely. I’m looking forward to it. We definitely have to get a little bit older, so the transfer portal can be good for us and we’re going to be really aggressive when it comes out.
