Heard they were not going to do anything today on the account that Davenport's dad services were today.

Yes...give us a 31 year old version of Nick Van Exel without the NBA career or program connections.

You wouldn't want a guy whose college coaching history was one season as an assistant to John Brannen?

Martin is a UC guy and would bring a lot of good will. Ask yourselves if he is a candidate for an aspiring major program anywhere?

Quote:If I were a betting man, I’d say UC’s next basketball coach will come from this group of four:

Jeff Boals. OU coach won the MAC tournament, then beat Virginia in the 1st round of the Madness last month.

Dennis Gates: Cleveland State coach was Horizon League COY in both of his two seasons at CSU.

Wes Miller: 185 wins in 10 years at UNC-Greensboro. Five straight 20-win seasons, two NCAA tournaments, was in the conversation to replace Roy Williams at UNC before Carolina hired longtime Heels assistant Hubert Davis.

Ryan Pedon: Last four years as an assistant at Ohio State for Chris Holtmann, whom he followed to OSU from Butler. Spent two years under John Groce at Illinois before that.

And yet again, Darren Savino, Mick Cronin's top assistant forever, gets snubbed. He got a courtesy interview from former AD Mike Bohn last time. This time, nothing. That's a shame.

Even though Erik Martin and Nick Van Exel both interviewed for the job last weekend, neither makes this list despite former players calling for Martin to get the job. Sources said Martin interviewed twice with UC.

I wouldn't trust PDAUGH to accurately report on what the best deals at Party Source are yet alone predict who our next basketball coach will be!

Everyone has an opinion and Daugherty gets paid for his.

Probably not, but his history here and his Ohio recruiting ties still matter. Doesn't mean he's my first choice, but fit is important. He's a more attractive option to us than, say, Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, there is no surefire home run hire available. There almost never is when hiring a head coach.

With the Masters this month I’m surprised PDoc had time to notice UC had a job opening.

PDoc has been a hack ever since he lost his radio gig. If you ever watched the postgame press conferences after the football games, the times that he actually asked questions make my point.

How seriously was Nored mentioned? Did he interview?

He's a really bright guy and it wouldn't surprise me if he nailed his interview.

Nored would surely be the youngest current coach in D1, no?

He'd be trying to find Brad stevens 2.0. Given his lack of college experience He'd be the riskiest hire.

I don't think we have any idea. I think the administration has talked to a bunch of coaches, but they've kept where they are going really quiet. It's pretty impressive how little leaks out

I agree. I can't believe there has been nothing leaked about either the Brannen situation or the coaching search. It's almost as if they leaked the Martin/Van Exel interviews to throw people off or to appease those who want an alum. It is frustrating if you want info but I don't blame the admin in the least.

I agree. I love it TBH.

Note: I’m not sold on what happened from an administrative standpoint until we know the facts/settlement and hire though.

How did Nored's name pop up? Just curious - was it his people or UC people who linked him to the job?
