I don't get this logic...if you really think about it, if it were not for Jones and ODU, would he be playing for WVU next year? We gave him opportunity, be parlayed that into a bigger opportunity.

Will be interesting to see how he does there with other weapons and a more dynamic offense. I wish him well.

You never get these years back and if you've always dreamed of getting to the NCAA's - I can't say blame him and others.

I can see your point but was't Curry a second team Juco All American if memory serves? He was gonna get a ride somewhere. This is just the way of the world now. Curry stated one of his main goals was to play in the NCAA Tournament. Always a long shot here to make the dance and its Currys last chance.

WV goes to the dance what, just about every year? Hall of Fame coach. Read this online. One of only six coaches ever with 900 or more career victories, Huggins has been to 24 total NCAA tournaments, including 23 in the last 26 seasons. He has led his teams to nine Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eight appearances, and two Final Four appearances.

Do we feel the same way about the other transfers from ODU? It's a big loss for the Monarchs though, no question.

But it shouldn't be a long shot to reach the dance at ODU. Thats the problem. Honestly, if any 4 year player ever graduates without going, thats a problem. And its a problem with either coaching or administration. At a minimum, ODU should make the NCAA once every four years. Preferably even more. That should be the publicly stated and expected goal. And if we dont reach it, admit that we are under performing and changes need to be made. Kids do want to play in the NCAAs and if we aren't going, then I cant blame them for not coming. But its a chicken and the egg argument. If Curry returned, I really like our chances of making the NCAA next season (though I felt that way this year too). With him leaving, it becomes a lot harder. Gotta have the players to make the tourney, gotta have tourney appearances to get the players.

You are forgetting what league we play in. Traveling 2,000 miles to play a Thursday game, then again a few hundred miles to play two days later. Almost a guaranteed loss. And we are about as far away as you can get .

And most kids see this I bet and want no part of it, so that affects recruiting too.

The school is low on money according to many of the folks who post here, so Jones is not going anywhere. And btw, I have personally discussed with three different ODU board members over several years this question. Hey, so what do you think of Jeff Jones. They all loved him. Easy to blame Selig but his higher ups are in agreement with him.

As much as I loved BT, he never coached a game in CUSA. He may or may not have done better in this far flung group of teams that have almost nothing in common.

This is a good point about not knowing how BT would have done. But I differ on the thinking that we have nothing in common with most of these schools. Especially the ones in the east. ODU is very similar to WKU, Charlotte, FAU, FIU and UAB. Pretty decent, mostly urban, diverse research universities with a mixture of on campus/commuter, traditional/non-traditional student bodies. With sports programs fighting for recognition in the shadows of the P5. I do think WKU, Charlotte, UAB and ODU (and maybe Marshall and MT) are the only ones that care about basketball though. And UAB appears to be shifting focus.

What’s a 4 year player? Is that some old-timey phrase?

Heard him on some radio show last weekend say this. Totally agree. The game is hard enough to watch now with three players just camped out at the three point line standing waiting for a pass.

We are in the group that will become more and more just a early training ground for the West Virginia’s and other power fives. We will get some of their players maybe who couldn’t get more then 5,6 minutes playing time from them. Such a shame.

RE: Transfers
No way the NCAA can stop this. Next year, we'll have some teams with players with personal twitter handles printed on their jerseys. And that is just the beginning. The game has been changing over a number of years and this transfer thing really hit us a few years back when Porter left a pretty good returning roster that was still good enough to get to the dance the following year. Same with Santos-Silva last year.

Many squads like ODU will have the same challenge and will flourish by being the best at attracting from the portal IMO. I think you will see the same high level-mids selling their programs in this way and we have an opportunity to do the same. But the days of falling in love with the 4 year player are nearly gone for good IMO.

It sucks. We take a chance, we coach em up, they get the reward. It’s going to destroy the game. Watch and see. I guess it happens though. At one point boxing was the most popular sport, then baseball... things change. But it’s sad to see something we all love starting to fall apart right before our eyes.

Yall see this is what we have ahead for us. Twitter handles replacing last names, self promotions.

I was at a youth baseball game and seen a 13 year old kid with his TikTok handle plastered all over his glove, hat, shirt, and bat bag.

He'd be a nice small forward. Don't we want our tight ends to be 6-10?

All players, any sport, any position, must register at least 6'10" for consideration at this university.

We'll have the most imposing golf team ever seen in the NCAA
