RE: Tomorrow's Football Game Cancelled?
Every time I see an FCS game cancelled I think about how much lying and cheating that had to go on in the FBS during the fall.

I don't know, I remember the fall being a **** show too. Is the cancellation rate higher in the spring?

I think it may be slightly higher in the spring, but that's probably because FCS rosters tend to be smaller (63 v 85 scholarships). It doesn't take as many players to be out to reach an unsafe level of play.

Tomorrow's Football Game Cancelled?
3 games vs quality opponents is better than a spring green vs gold game. A few young guys stepped up in a major way and a few players we expected to see for a few more years found the platform to move on. I think the spring season has been positive and I'm looking forward to a packed Zable this fall.

Agreed! I think the Spring games gave the coaches a real chance to evaluate their young talent.

Biggest problem of what amounted to just an extended spring practice was the injury one....adozen were hurt badly enough to sideline them
for would have been yesterday's game.
And the real season starts in only four months.

And yet, strangely, the official announcement said the game was cancelled because of Covid protocols in the Tribe program. So which is it, injuries or Covid? The whole thing smells of what Delaware did in basketball -- and they were derided mercilessly on this board.

Tomorrow's Football Game Cancelled?
One doesn't cancel out the other. I believe the game was canceled due to Covid. I also believe that a lot of injuries have occurred this spring. These are independent of each other. If the game was canceled due to injury, than yes, I'd be just as outraged as I was about Delaware. As far as I can tell, this isn't the case.

Just a thought on Covid and football. Let's just say that a defensive lineman gets it. The fact that they practice together, do film study together, etc. creates a chance for the entire position group could be quarantined. Stuff like that makes it really difficult to field a team.

The injuries are brought up to give London a handy excuse for the fall if/when things go poorly.

Can someone explain why some are so anti London who has only been here for one real season?

Some, I believe Rocco is one of these but can’t remember for sure, have been strongly anti-London since before he was hired... so for them, there is definitely some confirmation bias going on.

Some people love to complain. They want the world shut down when it comes to covid but can't stand the thought of our team canceling a game because of covid. Of course that's the same as UD playing on a Saturday (and losing) then somehow unavailable the following day.
As far a London, don't you know we should've won the national championship by now?
It's sad.

Also, with football, there's a certain point where if you don't have enough people, it's unsafe to play, so it may hav3 been a combo of opt outs, covid protocol, and injury. Like if you only have 3 healthy offensive linemen, a game is going to get cancelled. I don't know if the CAA has protocols set on the backend, but some conferences had set limits, like you need at least 6 available OL, 2 QBs, etc to field a team.

I'm aging myself, but London is Lyle Lanley, and the Go-Go offense was his monorail.
Every bad thing about London's coaching at UVA has been on display at W&M. His entire career has involved him taking over a job and quickly moving on to greener pastures before things get difficult. The one place he didn't bolt quickly was UVA and that turned into a quagmire under his leadership. If you didn't think London was the right guy to fix a program in need of major repairs (*raises hand*), it's unlikely anything that's happened since London took over would convince you he's the right man for the job.

Yeah, it is London’s fault that Mathis couldn’t go against JMU, which had resulted in a 5 year backup starting who came barely throw it 40 yards downfield. I also blame London for treating this like a spring practice, he should’ve played absolutely 0 true freshman, where all of the upperclassman weren’t even his recruits.
You can use actual reasoning like bad clock management, but instead you use the “you didn’t have your starting QB, RBs, or WR1, but you still should’ve beat the best team in the country” punchline, lol.

I don't think the argument being made is that we should be winning, it's that London hasn't done anything to fix the systemic problems we have. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, but I think that's the argument being made.

RE: Tomorrow's Football Game Cancelled?
London was one game under .500 in his first full season, winning four of his final five including a thriller at Richmond...playing with a poor team that he inherited
and managing to come up with a promising young quarterback. You can't count this spring, a melange of covid, many injuries, and a short schedule of meaningless games. To count this spring as anything but an extended..and injury-laden..exercise is folly.
I, for one, am more than happy to give Mike four solid recruiting classes to replace the empty larder that signified the previous several seasons.

Now you've disrespected a few hundred student-athletes and the staff who recruited and coached them. What's extra shameful is we all know you buddy-buddied with most of them.
