He would need to be a 3 and D type of player in the league and that would mean his shot would have to improve to an elite level.

Disagree. Baugh could routinely get to the rim. And if he had been a perimeter threat, it would have made getting to the rim easier. But what we'll miss from him is his length on D (DJ too). It gave us great versatility to guard even with Cisse & Dandridge on the bench. But as for shooting, it wouldn't take much for Baugh to have become a scoring threat. I'm not talking about 20 pt avg, just 10-12 a game with a perimeter shot. I believe he will get there with minutes & gained confidence.

But Baugh cannot routinely get to the rim. He never displayed the ability to consistently break defenses down. The only time he consistently got to the rim was on fast breaks, where he would attack the rim aggressively, or occasionally he would receive a pass on the wing and go baseline. But off the dribble he was not routinely getting to the rim.

Historically, bad shooters simply remain bad shooters so the chances of him developing a shot are minimal. Certainly, as a coach I would not be putting my hopes in that. Defensively, Penny has proven he can coach defense and we have multiple players coming with similar size and length.

Of all the transfers, his has the least amount of sting by far.

I thought he could get to the rim but had problems finishing.

Everyone on our team seems to have a problem scoring around the rim, including Baugh. But I never saw a player in him that consistently even got to the rim. I saw player with great athleticism and speed but horrible ball handling skills, could only use the right hand and dribbled with his head down that prevented him from beating his defender off the dribble and getting layups with any sort of consistency.

He is another guy that never figured out he was no longer in high school. He was no longer the biggest, fastest and most athletic guy on the court by a Grand Canyon size measure. He was still more athletic than most but not enough so that he could just blow by any defender at any time and then out jump any post player on the court. He simply never developed the skills necessary to keep progressing.

Quote:dribbled with his head down that prevented him from beating his defender off the dribble and getting layups with any sort of consistency.

It also prevented him from seeing other players and passing the ball to them.

Yeah because we haven’t had ANY transfers in that sport.

As a percentage of the team???? Percentage of production? Not anywhere close.

Only 1 starter so far. And he was a part time starter. Football has at least 3 by last count

The long awaited, 3.4ppg big announcement. I will be on pins and needles. I wonder if he will announce that he is going to learn how to dribble without looking at the basketball, or with his left hand.

Come on now, Baugh is good dude, played some good D and I will forever respect him for hitting that corner jumper against UT in Knoxville last year... he should have stayed but it’s all good.......hope he goes to Vandy or TSU.

Amazing how some don't like justified criticism of a particular player in a specific game & yet feel free to offer continual criticism of other Tiger players - even after they leave. Pitiful.....

There is little historical comp to indicate a 3 ppg guy becomes a 10 ppg guy if he's staying in similar competition.

See Damien Wilson, David Nickleberry, etc.

What was Baugh getting, 10-12 mins/game? Just a little improvement & playing 30+mins would get him there. Won't happen at Memphis but can happen based upon where he ends up.

I've historically been successful on this site at forecasting incoming players (high school) and xfers coming and going.

One simply can't extrapolate "just multiply minutes to see improvement.." because there is a REASON why players are only getting 10 mpg and not asked to shoot.

Lance Thomas and Isaiah Maurice are similar. There was a reason why they got scrub minutes as frosh at other schools. It was because they were bench guys from the start.

The same reason Enoh is doing ok at Marist but not playing 30 mpg. The same reason Nickel hasn't "elevated" his game at Buffalo, and the same reason Conover the Giant played ZERO minutes in the final 3 games of the NCAA tourney.

Baugh, at age 20, is highly unlikely to turn into a 34% three point shooter and average 12 and 4 at a high level D1 school.

and the same reason Wingett still gets scrub minutes....

Wingett was supposed to be this deadly sharpshooter at Memphis but he never panned out.. He played like three or four games before sitting out with an injury, and pretty disappeared from the map.. then he decided to transfer and chose South Dakota St over Wichita State.

Like constantly crapping on Lomax and claiming that Baugh was getting 12 minutes per game, when he played more than 12 minutes in 55 out of 57 games. 03-lmfao01-wingedeagle

It's possible to critique someone's play, or even ability, without belittling them. Unfortunately, there is 1 person specifically on this board that doesn't understand that.

He could help us too. Just not as a starting PG or lights-out shooter.

We will see what his role is there. TCU has 8 players in the portal, and another one declared for the NBA draft - from a bad TCU team.

Good for Damion. TCU is an awesome school with a less than mediocre basketball program. He will love his college experience and should get 35 minutes per game the next 3 years. I hope work hard and turns himself into a pro.

I read some of the comments and he got well wishes from a lot of his old teammates at Memphis.. You could tell they were a close knit group.. Sometimes, business are business.. you gotta do what is best for you.. Baugh is a good guy.

Wish him the best at TCU.
