RE: DJ Jeffries enters the transfer portal
In my opinion, as a parent, it is fair to critique our players' games. But when we start shitting on their character, we have crossed a line. We all like to think we know these kids and understand their motives, we all act like the latest rumor about this player or that parent demanding xy&z is 100% true and accurate, but the truth is 99.9% of us don't know ****, and the .01% that do are still just passing along events as portrayed and characterized by those who shared it with them, not necessarily how they occurred.

Kids like DJ have big dreams and aspirations. If he believes he needs to go elsewhere to reach those dreams, then we should wish him the best and hope he reaches his full potential. It doesn't matter if we like the decision or not, these are Memphis kids and we should be rooting for them. It is NEVER a bad thing for a Memphis kid to take a decisive action in an effort to achieve his goals and dreams.

Being a fan has become really complicated. I don’t criticize players, even those that leave. But I don’t have to rally around them when they leave, either. I’ll save that energy for the next Tiger.

Sorry to change the subject and not sure if it was posted but 247 had DJ 100% transferring to Miss State.

That's interesting, deep in the back of my mind I wondered if Cal would make a run at him just to keep his connections to the Memphis preps scene in good shape. Guess even Cal has given up on him.

This just makes no sense to me. Came to Memphis, tons of opportunity, beats the pants off Miss State in to end the year, a game he played well in, and then transfer to Miss State. Why?

To be able to claim he was a player in the SEC? Only thing I can figure...

When I watched the game again, it looked to me like he was auditioning for them... And his friend is on the team. shrug

DJ was bringing the ball up the court, blowing by defenders, he hit an outside shot...etc showing his versatility.

He was demonstrating to them how much better they'd be... He wants to be needed instead of criticized by fans...I dunno. Sometimes the reasons are very simple.

If DJ engages 100% of his time on the floor, he will succeed wherever he lands. That’s the missing link in his game.

Then the SEC is the worst conference he could go to... Go read some of their message boards...

Agree with both of you. I think Snow nailed DJJ's personality (without knowing him personally). And I think he'll continue to receive criticism until he throws 100% of himself at his craft. Can't just put your toes in the pool. GO GET IT DJJ!

Yep Go Get it DJ!!!
We do ourselves a disservice if we don't want him to succeed at Mississippi State.

I couldn't care less whether he does good, bad, or otherwise. No more or less than any other person.

meh
He will ultimately be forgotten, unless we happen to play them some time.
If he goes on to success - very possible - he will give all credit to Miss State.
So, whatever

We have too much talent to keep him on the floor when his offense isn't clicking, and he's the kind of player who needs touches and shots to find his rhythm IMO. He's a poor man's Carmelo Anthony, and he will shine (though not necessarily win) on a team that lets him play through his bad shots.

Some kids are natural competitors who want to win more than anything, and some kids are playing for solely for business reasons. As for the latter, I can't fault them. There's a lot of money at stake, and not every program/system is a good fit for maximizing their value.

I think DJ could have shined here next year, but I understand why a program that wants to feature him as their #1 scorer and doesn't have a lot of competition for his minutes is likely a good opportunity for him.
