STR- Tiger lane Tent and vegetation.
Move this post if needed but it's about the new Federal vaccine tent at Tiger Lane, where hopefully this fall we can begin tailgating again. Has anyone else seen that they placed a large drive through tent over the grassy areas and maturing oak trees? Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but from my basic biology background, I remember that trees and grass need light, water, and CO2 to survive. At least two of those are now blocked via a large tent structure setup by the National guard. I'm sure there's nothing that will or can be done about it now, but seems like there is quite a bit of open asphalt area they could have used for the tent just as easily without the likely damage to the area.

I haven't seen it in person, but from the few images I've seen on the news, it does appear there are trees under there. https://imgur.com/a/umaABVj

I will never understand why they didn't put this at the Navy Base and let the military do the vaccinations. They'd be way more efficient.

The military is running it just at a more centrally located address than the remote Millington site would be. This sounds pretty efficient to me!
"Marine division from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and have the ability to vaccinate approximately 3,000 people each day. Scheduled to be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week, that means more than 21,000 people could be vaccinated at the site each week."

Good to hear. I wasn't aware they were involved.

I've volunteered several times, believe it or not the city of Memphis (for all their faults) has done an excellent job since they took over.

Now all you need is 3000 people per day to line up to get the shot

True that, got mine (J&J one-timer) last week. Feel like U of M/City/County needs to say TL and LB will be at 100% capacity if Memphis/Shelby County gets to x% vaccinated or something like that. I'm guessing they'd never do that but still feel like it might push some more folks to get it done...

They've had help from Nashville, although no one will want to hear that.

Yeah, that's going to be the problem. They might fill up those slots for a week or 2, but then there's going to be a steep dropoff.

Oh well I guess a couple of decades from now when you are there tailgating with your grandkids and they ask why there’s this one section without the grand oak trees you can just tell them there was no other place around that they possibly could’ve setup a giant tent for 6-8 weeks. It will be a good story.

Not talking volunteers. Talking logistics, inventory management, decision makers and record keepers.

The "decision makers" were the city. Regarding that article, yes pretty much every city is getting help from the military and the private sector (I know this from personal experience - my company makes front-line equipment related to operation warp speed).
The city does enough wrong, we can give them credit during the blue moons when they get something right.
And by the way, that article needs a correction - after the state's investigation they found out that they were incorrect on the # of vaccines that went to waste. It was way less - still not a good look.
