It's just staggering...
Just watched the Zags and the Bruins semi-final game, and the difference in the level of players on the floor for these teams and the level that we have here at U of M is unbelievable.
I'm really jealous.

RE: It's just staggering...
Staggering to think that either of those teams is that much more incredibly talented than Memphis. The fact that Gonzaga starts 2 Juniors, 1 Senior, 1 Soph and 1 Freshman is a big difference. They have 6 Juniors and Seniors on their team.
You let the refs call the game like they did tonight, I would gladly put Memphis up against either of them. Play as well as we did down the stretch and I think we would be better than the 14.5 dog that UCLA was. Now if we don't shoot lights out from the field and 3, we wouldn't be in the game (but neither would UCLA). Didn't hurt Gonzaga went 60% from the FT line either.

It's all what you want to see. You think we have bad players, a bad coach and generally a bad team so of course, any team playing well is going to make you jealous.

What is staggering is both teams shoot over 57% of the field but neihter shot 70% from the line.

I mean, #3 and #4 for UCLA are some fine basketball players. Unbelievable how good they are. Hopefully, CPH can bring in some of that caliber of players and do it real soon.
The way things are now, if a kid comes in and does not live up to the hype, it's "Here son, let me introduce you to this thing called The Portal. oh, and good luck!!!"

Penny had the #1 class in ‘19. UCLA had the #78 class.
Penny had the #64 class in ‘20. UCLA had the #52 class.
Even after losing Nesbitt:
Penny has the #7 class for ‘21. UCLA has the #30 class.
Penny had two 1st rd picks in ‘20. UCLA had the 5th from last pick in ‘19
Huge edge Penny
#3 & #4 are both California kids. #3 is a transfer from Kentucky. Penny did well in the transfer market himself, nabbing Nolley and Williams.
What are you jealous of? Penny is working his tail off.

Is that not how it is elsewhere? There are well over 1000 players in that thing called the portal. That’s mind boggling.

Who has Penny forced off the team?
I don't know of a single player that has left that hasn't either threatened to leave previously or hadn't had off the court issues (not saying good or bad, wanting to be closer to family is an off the court issue that isn't bad).

None that I’m aware of. Most departures appear to have been what’s best for both parties.

What's staggering is the incredibly obvious stupidity of these posts. Any idiot can see they difference is that they are loaded with JR and SR players.
Memphis was again one of the youngest teams in division 1 this year, even with a 24 year old on the roster.

I actually looked at UCLA and thought, "we could have played with these guys at the end of season".

Except, Penny's team was sitting and watching UCLA's team in the Final Four (from 1st 4 play in to Final Four..). And Cronin in his second year.... Don't forget, UCLA sucked for a while under previous coaches.
Not saying Penny won't get it done in the future, just saying your argument don't hold water.

What argument? I posted some stats. Penny wins those stats. I don’t need to argue them. What am I missing?

I suppose he could always have his assistants recruit some JuCo kids he can coach up....and we see how that works out.

This year's team was the best we've seen in 7 years. That is undeniable.
KenPom tells us this was our best in 9 years. Better than all Tubby teams. Better than all but 1 Pastner team. Better than 4 of Cal's first 5 teams, before he went on the historical run.
But you keep doing you.

Yeah. I get it. There is no question that by the end of the year, we were playing better. And, with all of the talent on the floor, we should have been.
And maybe I'm wrong. I'm willing to admit that. But at some point, with all of the big time recruits, the dude has to get us in the Dance. Period.

Covid played a big role in us not getting in the last 2 years. I mean if we are being honest we have to be honest and admit that.
For those actually watching, young teams with big name recruits have struggled bad the last 2 seasons during the pandemic. Teams stacked with JRs and SR's have thrived.
In fact Penny has done much better than most with similar circumstances and rosters. You look around the country at big name coaches with young teams and many of them never got it going like Penny down the stretch. Many of those big name coaches struggled from beginning to end.
