RE: Poll: Roy Williams successor
When the last time they made a hire they poached a top-4 job in the country from blueblood Kansas, it’s hard seeing the next hire come from UNC Greensboro.

I doubt he’d want to leave the west coast, but Mark Few would be a huge win.

Could Carolina's target still be coaching this season?

I'd say the winner would definitely be a no (if you win a championship you're set for life at that school). Mark Few seems to be more of a lifer at Gonzaga and the Pacific Northwest than Scott Drew at Baylor (most associated with Indiana/Valparaiso) so I'd guess Drew would be more likely to make the move although I'd guess neither is likely.

How about if I had made that post 24 hours earlier? Would Mick Cronin be in the mix?

RE: Poll: Roy Williams successor
As I've noted, Scott Drew would be a strong addition to UNC. But I don't see him wanting the job in Chapel Hill (particularly if Baylor wins it all).

Mark Few is going nowhere (win or lose Monday night). He's happy in Spokane and good for him.

Jerry Stackhouse is staying in Nashville with Vanderbilt because Bill Dazzle (a Commodore/Music City homer) has politely asked him to.

Brad Stevens and Bill Donovan will stay in the NBA. Less pressure.

Tony Bennett: Strong coach and great with players and media. But his methodical (and low-scoring) offensive coaching style ... that' won't fly with Tar Heel fans.

Steve Robinson: Too old

It seems it's coming down to Hubert Davis, Wes Miller or a major wildcard that few of us, if any, are anticipating.

RE: Poll: Roy Williams successor
So far, 75% of us think UNC will hire someone from within the family. Yet, if Roy Williams is correct in his belief that he is no longer the man for the job in today's NCAA basketball climate, why would we assume that being part of the Carolina family is still an important criterion for the job? Who is more quintessentially a part of that family than Roy?

Coaching the Celtics is more pressure, not less. Rick Pitino ran away from that pressure.

You might be correct. But there is lots of pressure on some college colleges too. With the NBA ... no recruiting, working with adults, etc. Seems a bit "easier" — though that's a still a very tough job, no doubt.

One problem is that a lot of those adults have more leverage than the coaches do.

The Celtics have a large and intense fan base. But it's like any other pro league or college sports, some teams face a lot more pressure than others because of fans or ownership or whatever.

Also, there is recruiting in pro sports, particularly in the NBA and MLB where players can more easily move around once they are veterans. Some NBA teams hire coaches because it's hoped they can convince players to join or to stay -- similar to college teams hiring a coach because he's a great recruiter or firing a coach who drives players into the transfer portal.

In the NBA, it's more the players doing the recruiting.

Pitino voluntarily left the Knicks for Kentucky.
He was fired in Boston.
He might still be there if the Tim Duncan lottery went as the odds predicted.

I don't think Stevens leaves but the UNC job is a lot more appealing than the IU job right now. The only thing favoring IU was Stevens' Indiana roots. UNC is a blue blood among blue bloods. One of the top 3 brands in all of basketball.

No, Pitino resigned from the Celtics. He didn't get paid off and walked away from the money remaining on his contract.

Fair enough.
Still might be there if he got Duncan though.
Some bad luck involved
