Any sense of why some of these guys are leaving? I thought guys usually transferred because they didn't get playing time or are stuck in hopeless programs.

Lots of the transfers from the Southland schools are neither. I don't get it.

I know Lamar's coach is leaving, but besides that...

Mario mentioned that the blanket additional year of eligibility has put the transfer market in a tizzy. Schools have the same scholarship maximum, but extra players, which I think has led to some jockeying.

That's backwards thinking. If you have a scholarship in hand at your present school, why would you put name out on the open market when you know there are a finite number of scholarships available and many more players jockeying for them?

Because schools may not be prepared to honor a scholarship for an additional year at the expense of offering a promising recruit, which leads to a glut of experience players on the transfer market, which leads to schools considering signing an experienced pick over their current options, which leads to their current options getting worried about playing time and looking elsewhere. And so the cycle continues. I may be wrong, I’m no expert on the transfer market’s dynamics.

The current school gets the usual 13 scholarship and "unlimited" scholarships over that to account for current seniors. Of course, that supposes the school wants the player back and the school can afford to exceed 13 scholarships. If a current senior transfers, then they eat up one of the existing 13 scholarships at the new school.

NMSU's RS Freshman Rashaun Agee (6'7, 210) has entered the transfer portal. He spent most of his Aggie career on the bench injured.

It doesn't appear that he was the confused party. He stated it correctly. 01-wingedeagle

That should be talked about in the commitment thread. This thread is about WAC players leaving WAC schools for other schools.

RE: WAC Transfers
Lamar's Anderson Kopp has transferred to UM Kansas City; formerly of the WAC and now back in the Summit. UMKC has cleaned house of it roster with 8 Roos players transferring out recently (Brandon McKissic being one of the most coveted transfers); And now Donlon is in the process of restocking his team.

The Southland Conference Player of the Year has entered the transfer portal on the WBB side of things. This means both the men's and women's SLC POTY from Sam Houston State are into the portal.

He was a walk-on and the son of a former assistant coach at SHSU. Probably moving back "home" to Florida if I had to guess to play for a D2/NAIA type of program

The other two Aggies transfers were not too concerning. This one (Watson) is a little frustrating for Aggie fans. However, Jans is a no nonsense coach. He will be tough on players who he thinks aren't playing Aggie ball. 4-star, 3-star or no star. I just wish Jans would play his younger players more in game action in order to develop and feel as part of the team's success.

Its a lot harder to work your way into the rotation starting mid year, perhaps especially this year. I'd rather have him than Pryor, but oh well...

It's just a guess on my part, but I don't think Jans liked the team chemistry of his roster this season. So, i think he is move players regardless of talent to find a group of players who will work to Jans satisfaction. All I know, is (attitudes aside) some is going to get a very talented wing forward in Watson. Oh well.

Perhaps I am wrong for doing so, but I don't maintain much benefit of the doubt on guys who "didn't work out," (or worse in Watson's case) at a higher level school and bounce again in short order from their next opportunity. Talent be damned, there are some guys who may be better off at a place that is more desperate for players than Jans is.

Players are expected adjust to Jans. Jans won't adjust to the players. Given the choice, I think Jans would rather have a slightly less talented player who busts his butt every night than a very talented player who turns it on and off at will.

I didn't even realize we were an ideal spot for him. Was a little bit surprising in his recruiting last time around how late GCU stayed in the process with him in the initial recruiting, think we made his top 5. Averaged 5 and 3 in his time with ASU, but also only averaged 18 minutes a game over his 3 years. Could again be a case of under-utilization at ASU?

Struggled to get into the rotation in at times with guys like Zylan Cheatham Romello White Kimani Lawrence Jalen Graham Marcus Bagley around and Hurley shot leash on players and his affinity to play heavy guard lineups at times. GCU should be a nice spot for Cherry to reach the level of expectations everyone had for him entering in at ASU but time will tell.
