I get the feeling Baugh still has big dreams from getting pumped up as a pro prospect. He's looking bigger than mid-major.

Baugh with a consistent perimeter shot is NBA level with his defense & length. It's a shame to lose him. But if he isn't being developed here, he should transfer. Maybe he'll get that perimeter game going somewhere.

Baugh's high game this year was 10 points and he did that one time this year. I like Baugh and he played really hard but it was hard to have him and ALo in the rotation going forward because the offense suffers. I hope he finds a good fit somewhere.

Agree but look out if he develops a perimeter game. He'll be next level given his defense, his ability to get to the rim & his length.

I don't think so. Defense is more about effort, and ability to learn from coaches and read the floor, not so much about physical ability and talent.

The fact that Penny got this bunch to play such great defense tells me he can do it with others, as well.
I believe he is a defensive coach, and that he will get players that will want to play some defense in here. I have to say this bunch did it, didn’t they? The improvement in this team was to me absolutely stunning.

Unfortunately it took 2 yrs with this team, now transferring.
Well it did take 2 years, and I hope it doesn’t take another two. He has got to go find some players that will buy in on what he is trying to do. I say if he can even find players that wants to play defense. I have a feeling that he can though. That’s just it, who does he go after?

It's been 2 years. How long do I have to look? I always thought Baugh should shoot more. He only took 82 shots this year in 507 minutes. Jayden and Dandridge took about the same number of shots in about half the minutes.

A lot of playing great defense is effort but athleticism and length helps.

3.4 points per game and 26.3% from outside. So CLOSE to the NBA according to Einstein. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao01-wingedeagle01-wingedeagle01-wingedeagle

Neither a surprise nor a disappointment. Maybe he will find someplace where it won't matter if he slows down the offense and his bad pass missed assists won't be so glaring.

I agree with you, and maybe in the next batch that he gets, or replaced may be just that. We have to get players that fit his system and is willing to play.

We know for a fact that the system is a winning formula and Penny can coach. We also know that he can literally teach anyone to play great defense.

If everyone returned next year, Baugh wasn't getting more than 10 minutes per game.

That's asking a lot. To develop a shot this late in the game. It's possible I guess.
My prediction is he goes somewhere chasing that dream, and ends up disappointed like so many others have. In 1-2 years he transfers again, to a lower level and finally gets some consistent playing time.

I hope he goes somewhere he can dunk on people all the time.

His run to the rim is vicious but he needs clearer lanes than the AAC can provide.

RE: Baugh in transfer portal
I guess the last nail in the coffin was Tony Madlock leaving to South Carolina St.. Madlock was crucial in bringing Baugh to Memphis.. Baugh was already receiving limited playing time and quite honestly he was not even close to the player I saw as a freshman.. He struggled offensively this year..

I would not be surprised if he lands in a good program.. As one of the ESPN color guys said in the NIT finals, he thought Baugh got NBA potential when he saw him last year in the Bahamas.

Wish him the best wherever he goes.

Of course it does. My point is that even if you have physical deficiencies, relatively speaking of a D1 player, you can still be taught to play good to great D.

I can see Baugh fixing his shot...

But his handle and quickness is where he will struggle offensively in the league.

He would need to be a 3 and D type of player in the league and that would mean his shot would have to improve to an elite level.

Disagree. Baugh could routinely get to the rim. And if he had been a perimeter threat, it would have made getting to the rim easier. But what we'll miss from him is his length on D (DJ too). It gave us great versatility to guard even with Cisse & Dandridge on the bench. But as for shooting, it wouldn't take much for Baugh to have become a scoring threat. I'm not talking about 20 pt avg, just 10-12 a game with a perimeter shot. I believe he will get there with minutes & gained confidence.

There is little historical comp to indicate a 3 ppg guy becomes a 10 ppg guy if he's staying in similar competition.

See Damien Wilson, David Nickleberry, etc.

What was Baugh getting, 10-12 mins/game? Just a little improvement & playing 30+mins would get him there. Won't happen at Memphis but can happen based upon where he ends up.

I expect Jordan Nesbitt to easily fill Baugh's roll, but with longer reach.
