Is this the first glimpse of the smoking gun? What should be read into the comments from Coxie and other former players (according to the article, alleged to be true). Granted, this is one side of the story, from someone who most likely is somewhat biased in their assessment of the situation.

Is it worthy of being published in the local media? Is this just the beginning of a bigger story? Beats me...

Imma post an except from the article because it is subscriber only.

" He was supposed to form a dynamic trio with Calvin Austin III and tight end Sean Dykes this year. Instead, Washington is now in the transfer portal, having entered his name on Wednesday, March 24.

All of Tiger Nation had a similar reaction: “Why?”

The answer appears to be a fractured relationship with coach Ryan Silverfield.

“He just wanted to know what (Silverfield)'s plans were, what his goals were for Tahj,” Washington’s mother, Shanon Kuykendall, said this week. “He sat down with Silverfield and there was nothing promising. That made his decision for him. You can’t keep a child in a box.

“I just do have to applaud the rest of the staff because their thinking is totally different, but when the head coach has a different vision, (it’s tough).”

Huh...That is strange...

"What his goals were for Tahj"

Were they expecting some sort of commitment from the head coach to number or targets\snaps...I just dont get it.

Yeah... was coach supposed to put together a powerpoint?

Ridiculous on his part. He was put in a position to have 700+ yards receiving and become a freshman All American. What more do you want from the coaching staff?

Ryan should know with the relaxed transfer rules, kids are constantly being recruited & re-recruited. Washington was looking for a little reassurance and having a freshman, who became the solid #2 option, asking about his role, should have been a red light.

I am sure he "reassured him" but that is not what he was looking for... He clearly had a very defined role in the future of the team. Again, he was not simply looking for his role and some reassurance...

RE: Tahj Washington enters the transfer portal
Sounds/looks to me like another school tampered (typical) and made promises for him to be their #1 target.
Promises are easy to make.
Then Tahj tried to leverage this with Memphis and it didn't work.
It's like a lot of people I've seen try to use job offers to get a raise.
I will be very interested to see where he ends up.
And then I will root fiercely against that program and against Tahj.
It won't hurt us this year, but he could have been another game-breaker in Memphis lore.

Taj should be the one with goals, Coach has plans. Seems like someone got their feeling hurt.

Carter, Dorceus, Washington, Hart & Eze transfer... and while it happens everywhere, it’s hard to imagine any of those consequential decisions being made if Mike Norvell were still here.

Did one search on the FSU program under MN. They did an emergency podcast on Dec 2 to vent about all of the transfers and opt outs including Mike’s own recruits. The roster on that date may be as low as 55 players depending on clarification from the university. With contact tracing it was down to 44 players with two games left to play. 19 player transfers or opt outs. There has been since he took over the program an estimated 66% turnover of the roster. Silverfield and Norvell are roughly two weeks apart from assuming the head coaching job at their current universities.

That again was Dec 2. I didn’t waste any more time on an uninformed statement.

Virtually all programs are experiencing the same thing. Combine a pandemic with very liberal transfer options and the normal things programs go through with coaching changes we are about average when it comes to losses.

Opinions are ok. We all have them. Informed opinions actually have value.

Yeah I bet coach doesn’t even know about these transfer rules, lol. Maybe you should give him a call and provide your much needed insight. Heck, he might even bring you on staff for rules expertise.

He lost his best OL. He lost his best cover corner. His best RB sat out. His best WR sat out and now his potentially best receiver is leaving; so I’m sure he’s familiar with the transfer rules. I’m simply saying, the old adage in business is it’s cheaper to hold onto an existing customer than to have to track down a new one. Again, all of this may have been necessary, but in sports, the results will play out on the field.

Although I hated to see the above mentioned guys leave, I submit that we may have gotten upgrades over each with the offensive lineman and DB transfers from Michigan State and the WR transfer from Arkansas. We also got an offensive lineman from TCU that can play multiple spots on the line.

We may not like it, but these new transfer rules have created a new norm and our coach and program are simply part of that new reality. I am confident in our staffs' ability to manage the situation.

It's going to be tough. Losing your three quarterbacks, no running game, no legit #1 receiver, 4th center for 4 years in a row. We're now hoping to win 7 games next year. Even though we won 8 games last year, the team played horrible in 3 of the wins.

Another relative made a comment that our coaches did not try to convince him to stay with the program. Not sure exactly what that means since I would not expect a coach to BEG a player to not leave but more to explain that he had to compete for his position just like every other player. Maybe that was not good enough and more was expected.

Team won 8 games last year. Escape a win at Navy, UCF missed a field goal at the end, Temple and USF was leading at the half.

Replacing the best Quarterback in school history (and his back up) the running game was absent last year, new center and left tackle, and three starters transferred out on the defensive side. New kicker and punter as well.
Nicholls, Arkansas State, UTSA, SMU, and ECU looks to be wins (as of now). Where do you think the other two wins are going to come from? Curious to here your input...

First of all, I assume you mean”hear” as opposed to “here.” I anticipate beating Moo State as well as other foes within conference. Defense should be significantly better, I believe the QB will be good and we will be more explosive on offense. Are you always a pessimist?

Every game is winnable. My "hope" is NOT 7 wins. My hope is to be one of the top 2 teams in the conference, challenging for the AAC title.

It’s unusual to lose 2 & 3 year starters... guys who are leaders on the team and expected to be significant contributors the next year. The transfers coming in are in search of playing time, as are the majority of players in the transfer portal, yet so many of ours were first/second unit guys.

Sorry, but that’s concerning.

Will the QB be good? Yes.
Will he be as good or better than Brady White? I'm not going to say yes on that, because that is asking for a lot in a QB in a new environment .
Am I a pessimist? No, I am just realistic. Defense should be better?? We said that last year, and they were. I don't know exactly "how much better" this defense can get.
