No way to tell if this hurts the little guys more than the big guys yet. I still contend that it helps the big guys more when there is no penalty.
A successful player doesn't want to sit out a year to "upgrade" competition...But a player disgruntled over playing time will sit out a year for a new opportunity.
I do not know, just an opinion based on interviews. I heard Coach Silverfield say some guys are taking other guys' jobs. Is this the case with Tahj? I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised at some players' sense of entitlement rather than battle for a position and not realizing the competition makes you better.
Nobody was taking Tahj's job. Freshman All American with over 700 yards receiving... Unless we have an NFL team set of wideouts on the roster he is leaving for a different reason.

Man - hate to hear that. If he was not “All In,” then it is best for all concerned. I wish him well, but give me someone who wants to be a Tiger!

I see... I missed the "2020" in the tweet, and thought they meant he played really well in 4 games in 2019 and then not at all in 2020.

RE: Tahj Washington enters the transfer portal
I'm interested to see where he ends up. If the Aggies or Longhorns made it known they had an opening, I could certainly see it. With him being from NE Texas, maybe the Piggies or Sooners or Cowpokes had talked to him in HS. Then again, if he goes to Stephen F. Austin or LA Tech and is back close to home, you could understand I guess. Blinn College or East TX A&M probably means grade issues.
I looked to see if there was any update on Joseph Dorceus on the interweb and didn't see anything. Maybe no final decision yet.

RE: Tahj Washington enters the transfer portal
OK, he is from Marshall, TX. Very under recruited. But....he was given an opportunity at Memphis to get thrown the ball by a great QB...Brady White. So...he excelled at an early time in his college career due to Covid and other situations at Memphis. Now he sees....that he just may be able to take advantage of his recent accolades to get an offer from TCU, SMU, Texas or A&M, maybe even OU, Baylor or Texas Tech. Let's see how this plays out. Parents can also be a big influencer. HeffTiger comments are also worth consideration. Growing up in Texas....means your family and friends expect and want you to play in Texas. He really didn't have any great offers out of high school but....he is a great commodity now. Odd...Memphis spots talent and he decides to hop ship after he was shown appreciation. Hope I am wrong but...it looks really strange to bite the hand that feeds you. Maybe family pressure...who knows?

Y'all do realize not every transfer has anything to do with what is happening on the playing field.
I won't judge until somebody with knowledge comments (meaning a coach or the player/family).
As far as how bad it hurts the team, we had some really solid talent transfer, as well as some really good players move from defense to offense. We have a lot of depth and position battles will be all over the field. I am only saying that to say that this isn't the Tiger teams of even a decade ago, where one player leaving could kill the depth at a position. That thought had nothing to do with why he may or may not be transferring.

You are exactly right. I was also wondering how the new players that moved over from defense might affect playing time/packages. May not have a thing to do with it. No doubt Tahj was talented. Next man up!

I wouldn't allow a release interconference.
TCU is fighting Oklahoma now over a QB who has already physically transferred.
Taj might be headed for TCU

RE: Tahj Washington enters the transfer portal
This is an interesting article.
I seem to recall some comments and discussions about the number of transfers, opt outs, etc. and could there be a possible connection with the new coaching staff. I am getting old and my memory is not what it used to be.
Is this the first glimpse of the smoking gun? What should be read into the comments from Coxie and other former players (according to the article, alleged to be true). Granted, this is one side of the story, from someone who most likely is somewhat biased in their assessment of the situation.
Is it worthy of being published in the local media? Is this just the beginning of a bigger story? Beats me...
Imma post an except from the article because it is subscriber only.
" He was supposed to form a dynamic trio with Calvin Austin III and tight end Sean Dykes this year. Instead, Washington is now in the transfer portal, having entered his name on Wednesday, March 24.
All of Tiger Nation had a similar reaction: “Why?”
The answer appears to be a fractured relationship with coach Ryan Silverfield.
“He just wanted to know what (Silverfield)'s plans were, what his goals were for Tahj,” Washington’s mother, Shanon Kuykendall, said this week. “He sat down with Silverfield and there was nothing promising. That made his decision for him. You can’t keep a child in a box.
“I just do have to applaud the rest of the staff because their thinking is totally different, but when the head coach has a different vision, (it’s tough).”

Quote “He sat down with Silverfield and there was nothing promising." If I was a coach and a player and their parent ask for a promise to play regardless of results, well heck I would say you are the leader but if you don't preform as expected then well....

I think you are getting the bigger picture here.
You gotta really read the whole article (hard to do if you don't subscribe). What I got was that dude wanted Coach Silverfield to tell him how good he was, that he was an All American, and was gonna make a lot of money in the NFL. That he was gonna be the man in the offense next year...etc.
Apparently, Coach was not putting out the vibe the kid wanted to hear.
But then, other former players make comments on social media, that I interpret to mean coach might be the biggest part of the problem. Again, one side of the story from people who apparently have decided to take one side over the other.
Should be interesting to watch it all unfold.

RE: Tahj Washington enters the transfer portal
If I remember correctly, wasn’t it the players that lobbied for Silverfield to be named the head coach?
Or was it only certain player groups doing the lobbying and some groups/type of players weren’t vocal enough in their opinions?
So much for team unity....

Successful staffs have to draw a line or they will lose the broader team. The best talent plays. It drives competition, and true competitors wouldn’t want it any other way. Otherwise, why go to practice? Workouts? Film study, off season conditioning, Etc? It is hard being a student-athlete. The reward is playing time.
