Hawks lead game 2 of the doubleheader, 3-0 in the 3rd.
Zach Bridges hit a 2-run bomb and Gesell has pitched great so far.

Nice series. Good luck against future inferior, anemic opponents.

Congrats on winning your World Series! This will no doubt light up that 2-page W&M baseball thread you guys have going on over there.
And thanks for the help in non-conference play. 2.7 runs per game entering today and now the lightbulb goes on for your bats. The CAA rocks, baby.

UNCW just fell 16 places in RPI rank today.
Sigh...

UNCW is the flagship program without a doubt so hopefully you can understand that it is extremely disappointing to lose to a team that has done nothing meaningful until today. If the Tribe beat C of C 2 of 3, I think that would have changed opinions going in. The Tribe has always been solid and hard to beat.

Awwww, I earned my grad degree from VCU soI feel your pain (a little), but, luckily, my #1 school has football. It must feel awful to have a nerd school with football and dire financial issues knock you out of the CAA MBB tournament and sweep you in baseball, but, it happened. I think you have beach volleyball or some other meaningless sport so maybe that program will be successful. Cheers!

Wow really? Congrats on your awesome 4-8 record. Assume being a “nerd” you know that you need to win tomorrow to actually “sweep”

Swept the day, but, I honestly don't care. Y'all take baseball a whole lot more seriously. Baseball is okay, I guess, but meh. I didn't even realize we have a game tomorrow. Either way, I'm glad when W&M wins at anything but losing a baseball game doesn't ruin my day. I can't name our coach or more than 2 players and I'm a diehard Tribe fan. I know we ended your MBB season after we were picked last...then we killed your top 25 aspirations in baseball after your resident writer referred to us as inferior and anemic. I guess that explains the bad vibe. Not sure how we are "inferior" but managed 2-0 so far. We were also inferior in MBB, but...it happens. Happens a lot when it comes to W&M vs UNCW.
You guys know I'm just messing with you, right? C'mon...it's spring and the Covid debacle is fading. Be happy!

RE: Baseball: Series @ William & Mary
If you were a perennial Regional team, you’d take the sport seriously too. This conference used to be a strong one in baseball (including W&M), but that went by the wayside. It’s unfortunate, because at least when that was the case I could give a meaningful tip of the cap to the opponent. We can’t get out of the CAA fast enough.
2.7 runs per game entering the weekend was indeed both anemic and inferior. Strain had been basically your lone bright spot to date, and even the W&M fans in your board stated as much. There was nothing disrespectful about stating as much, and doing so on our board no less. You were clearly bothered by this accurate assessment despite your assertion that you’re “just messing”.

William and Mary is an incredible educational institution. Heck, it's been around since the beginning of our country. But let's face it, this is a sports message board, and the Tribe hasn't exactly elevated the CAA in athletics in any meaningful way. Playing spoiler doesn't count.

Just a question Tribal, why do you pull for the Tribe and not VCU where you went to school? It’s admirable that you pull for them and have adopted them as your team. They generally do things the right way there and is a terrific academic institution.

82, that's a weak argument. We've won a lot more CAA Championships over the last several years in sports about as noteworthy as UNCW's. No one outside a few baseball fans care at all about your recent baseball championships any more than people care about our soccer and olympic sports championships. Let's face it, other than JMU football, no CAA program has done ANYTHING to advance the conference in over a decade. All 1 and done in the NCAAT, something W&M hasn't even made. W&M Athletics, at this point, is best known for our esteemed NFL coaching tree. Is UNCW Athletics known for anything? Anything at all?

It's a deep response that I'd rather not answer in detail. In short, W&M gave me an undeserved opportunity at a pivotal point in my life that very much changed my life's path for the MUCH better. Also, I met my wife there. I bet many of you view UNCW as intimately.
My VCU degree was state-sponsored and earned at a time where my path, especially my career path, was clearly established. It just didn't and doesn't mean as much.

Conferences are built on each part making the whole better. Unfortunately in the world of mid majors, winning in basketball means your best coaches move on. UNCW has done it's part to make the CAA a better than average basketball conference with two very good runs in the past two decades. VCU and GMU did their part, NU and Hofstra did their part. CofC did their part. But then you have JMU, Delaware, Drexel, W &M, Towson, Elon, who haven't really had any runs where their winning led to coaches being poached. That's half the teams in the conference.
CofC is the only new addition that has even come close to making up for the loss of VCU, GMU, and ODU. With UNCW it's really a matter of time before we get back on track BECAUSE we have a great basketball history and reputation at the midmajor level. And a little insider info that UNCW has a goal and trajectory to reach 25k students this decade, up from 14k just a few years ago. That's a game changer financially where we've always lagged. We haven't been in existence long enough to have generational ties to the university, so student fees reign supreme.
I'm hoping the influx of new coaches gets us back on track. But it was the worst time to rebuild we could have imagined.
