RE: North Texas game thread
North Texas won 4 games in 4 days in front of their home crowd. After holding ODU to 55 points, they held La tech and WKU to 48 points in regulation. Pretty obvious not much difference at all between the top 5 or 6 teams in the league. NT reminds me of ODUs team a couple years ago. Not pretty but get the job done. Amazing defensive team. They guard you with their offense in a sense, similar to UVA style. They just play that keep away ball and bleed clock. Props to them.

Well said - this is formula to win boring but effective

WKU so much talent and all they got to show for it is "East Div Champs". Not many MBB teams have an All-American for a few years not not make the NCAAs.

Remember the mid-80 the CAA, Navy with David Robinson. What fun they were to watch. The championship game at Hampton was amazing.

well, in the case of my Washington NFL team.... I hope that the team who vanquished us wins the entire tournament! Go NT Mean Joe Green!

(and Bell III looks like Petey Sessoms.)

Top 6 teams all played closely. Any of them could have won.

Glad it wasnt $tansbury or Marshall.

Congrats to UNT! Tough team. Built to go on a run.

Just for the record, UNT played 4 straight night and went into overtime in game 4 to win. They essentially played 6 players.

Georgetown played 6 guys with the 7th getting a handful of minutes bc of foul trouble.

Just remember that next time someone says so and so cant win the tourney bc they have no depth.

P.S. western Kentucky will always have those regular season CUSA East champion tee shirts.

The top 5 CUSA teams are very similar. The difference is that UNT can shoot the 3.

I know kenpom isn't everything, but the CUSA didn't play every team this year (we avoided top seed LT and CUSAT winner UNT) and our kenpom was 7th in the conference. Don't let the E/W split seeds fool you into thinking we were a top 25% team in conference... we weren't.

Yeah, you seem really brokenhearted

If it leads to us getting a real freaking coach i wont be upset at all.

I think next year is JJ's final year under contract. With that being, said I predict JJ will leave after next year with Reese, Oliver and Klua leaving. What is left and what is the a better time to leave, when the team needs a new coach to build an empty roster.
That is logical and makes cents

I thought JJ was extended thru 2024

Our kenpom ranking was hurt because we did not play them.

So you're saying Kenpom was wrong and we were better than 7th?

Just for the record, NT was fortunate to pull the game out of the fire at the end. They didn't simply have just a ridiculously low 9 second half points with a minute or so to go in regulation simply because WKU's defense was the best defense college basketball has ever seen in the 2nd half. Their shots were off because they were extremely fatigued. Their fans are saying the same thing regarding their team nearly blowing the game due to fatigue.

No, nothing is absolute and someone can always find a case in point where a team prevailed in spite of adversity in one form or another. North Texas proved that last night. Heck, ODU (women) nearly pulled off a win against Charlotte in OT with just 4 players on the floor. Using your logic I guess that just proves that having 5 on the floor is overrated.

The advantages of having size and depth are two things you can't seem to understand for some strange reason. Either that or you just don't want it to be the case for some equally strange reason.

You said our rating was hurt because of our schedule. I also inferred that to meaning our rating was inaccurate. What did you mean by that? Doesn’t KenPoms magic sauce accurately rank teams regardless of who they play? Doesn’t matter if we play La Tech and lose or Charlotte and win. What matters is the margin of victory/defeat.

I'm with you on depth but you shouldn't blame that second half all on fatigue. WKU punched them in the mouth right out of the break and they lost confidence. They were able to rebound from that in the last few minutes of regulation and in OT. Its not like they suddenly became unfatigued.
