2 weeks ago, Sampson said "we'll lace them up and play - we just want basketball games", or something like that.

Since then, he's weaseled out of a game against Memphis and is considering skipping the conference tourney. Oh, and just prior to that he skipped a chance to play #1 Gonzaga and opted for someone called Lady of the Lake.

Yeah, he's running scared right now.

He said that when he was plastering everyone he stepped on the floor against. He has come back down to earth.

RE: "Rankings" thread for the season
UPDATED 3/8, after the Houston Heist:
KenPom #40, up 1. Offense #154, Defense #2. SMU #54. Wichita #72.
NET #52, up 4. SMU #56. Wichita #65.
BPI #40, up 4. SMU #51. Wichita #95.
Sagarin #44, down 1. SMU #50. Wichita #63.

Memphis is now the clear #2 in all computer metrics. SMU is falling fast, and Wichita is treading water.

Lunardi has Memphis as 5th team out, SMU 6th team out, Houston 2-seed, Wichita 11-seed.
Gasaway has Houston a lock, and Memphis/SMU/Wichita as on the bubble.
Pam has Memphis and SMU on the bubble, Houston 3-seed, and Wichita 9-seed.

It seems clear to me we will be a 2-bid league. I'm guessing whichever of Memphis, Wichita, or SMU makes the conference finals will get the 2nd bid. If both Memphis and Wichita makes the finals, there's a shot at getting 3 bids - depending on how the bubble bursts.

In our favour, we are an average of 28.5 points higher in the 4 metrics, and clobbered Wichita, BUT we didn't beat Ole Piss, so according to one of our posters, we are out. 01-wingedeagle03-lmfao

We look like a really good basketball team. We looked a lot better than Houston yesterday.

RE: "Rankings" thread for the season
Getting by Houston will probably be like yesterday---...we will want to be physically. as well as mentally and emotionally prepared to encounter the same kind of officiating. Imbalance in the officiating can throw off everything --including free throws...too much emotion gets in the game.

What part of a conference protecting its top seed do y'all not get? I mean what makes us or anyone think that the AAC will not load the game with refs who will call games like we experienced yesterday.

How do you prepare emotionally for that. It's gotta be challenging to play your heart out and feel victimized by the refs who take their cues from the conference..

We gotta bust a lot of treys ...lol.

Jerry Palm had us out of the 2014 tournament when we were ranked. Lunardi, is always way off until 5 minutes before the show. It's crazy that someone could be so infatuated with someone beating Ole Piss. Someone cares more about a team beating Ole Piss than they do us clobbering them. Hilarious.

RE: "Rankings" thread for the season
UPDATED 3/13, after the UCF win:
KenPom #40, no change. Offense #166, Defense #1. SMU #58. Wichita #70.
NET #52, no change. SMU #65. Wichita #64.
BPI #45, down 5. SMU #57. Wichita #98.
Sagarin #42, up 2. SMU #55. Wichita #61.

Lunardi has Houston 3-seed, Wichita 12-seed, Memphis 2nd team out, SMU 8th team out.
Palm has Houston 3-seed, Wichita 9-seed. He still has us way down his list of bubble teams - which is silly. Of course, he still uses the RPI in his metrics, so he's due for a recalibration at some point - hopefully this year.

Seems clear to me that SMU is out now.
Also, I still feel that the AAC gets 2 teams in no matter what - especially at this point since both Wichita and we survived our 1st game close calls.

IMO...
We (Wichita and Memphis) both win today, we could both get in - depending on the bubble and the COVID bowouts which seem to be opening a few slots.
We both lose today, and 1 of us still gets in - due to same reasons stated above. Wichita has the better win. We have the better metrics and eye test.
1 of us wins and the other loses, the winner has locked up the 2nd slot.

Actually, I noticed that too---even under his mask. He looked drained beyond anything normal. I felt bad for him.

RE: "Rankings" thread for the season
OP UPDATED 3/14 - maybe for the last time - after the Houston loss:
KenPom #39, up 1. Offense #145, Defense #3. SMU #59. Wichita #74.
NET #52, no change. SMU #65. Wichita #72.
BPI #40, up 5. SMU #54. Wichita #96.
Sagarin #42, no change. SMU #55. Wichita #64.

We could be the highest ranked KenPom team left out. Wichita could also be the worst ranked team to get an At Large.
Lunardi has us as 6th team out. He no longer has Wichita in the field or on the bubble. Houston is a 2-seed.
Palm has Wichita as a "last 4 in".
If we could manage to get in the first 4 out, we would be an alternate (if the NCAA is still following that plan) that would allow us to step in for a team that has to bow out for COVID. It would also get us a 1-seed for the NIT.

I don't know how Wichita is even in the discussion honestly. I'm afraid we will come up a bit short, which is disappointing as the second best team in the conference. Just too many missteps early in the season.
