Does ECU have a football "Rival" already on that weekend? Seems like they would, but I can't think of who it would be?

ECU fans are obsessed with playing and beating NC State especially, and UNC and Va. Tech. They feel slighted when those schools don't schedule them. As for any ODU-ECU rivalry, I'm of the school of thought that says it's not a rivalry until both teams have beaten the other. Last I checked, ODU is 0-3 against the Pirates.

Rivals need to have mutual hatred. UNC and NCSU fans may dislike ECU but their hate is saved for other programs.

That’s what the record book says. We did beat them once, but the refs overturned it.

UNC and Duke hate each other. N.C. State hates UNC but UNC looks down on State, which then transfers that energy into looking down on ECU, which hates State.

I guess ECU's rival is Marshall, though because of what links them, it's not the traditional "grr you're our enemy heck off" rivalry.

“ MAC schools & Old Dominion are among those Nebraska contacted to play in Lincoln on Sept. 18, industry sources told @Stadium. Nebraska is looking to get out of playing at Oklahoma Sept. 18, sources said. This year marks 50th anniversary of the 1971 NU-OU Game of the Century”

Very interesting

Looks like Nebraska is catching a lot of crap for this.

Wow. That could be expensive for Nebraska. I guess they'd have to pay Libertys buy out plus our body bag fee.

Unless Liberty can swing something better trhan playing us.

They have to pay Oklahoma for cancelling too ($1 million). ODU and Liberty have H/H agreements so rescheduling is pretty easy. I wonder if Nebraska swings a deal to get Liberty on their schedule in a future season to waive the buyout for ODU/LU then they'd just have to pay OU the million and then ODU.

Nebraska is catching hell for this though, running away from a rivalry game that has significance (50 Year Anniversary) and it leaking out before they have anything lined up...woooof.

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules
I have mixed feelings. Part of me is excited about playing these P5 teams, but on the other hand, playing 2 P5s in one season makes it a LOT harder to get to a bowl. But then again, playing Indiana is better than anyone we would play in a bowl anyway. But winning a bowl game is a lot better than losing to Indiana at their place. But thats a lot of cash... mixed feelings for sure.

Payday games increase the budget, increased budget increases the chance of retaining quality assistants, which increases the chances of better recruiting which.. you get the picture. Until we get a T Boone Pickens or Tilman Fertitta of our own, it’s what needs to be done.

I'm not an FBS expert, so genuinely asking if the 2 P5 teams in one year, let's just assume both are losses, puts the bowl game out of reach? We only need to win 6 games to be bowl eligible right? And usually a 10 game schedule including 1 FCS game that counts? So assume we start against 2 P5s and 1 FCS and go 1-2, we need to win 5 of remaining 7. Seems doable if we are a middle of the pack east team. Not so much if we are in the cellar of the east though.

We play 12 games, so you have to just go .500 to make a bowl. Two P5s shouldn’t be a hurdle to that unless you stink.
