CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Well, whatever it means in terms of roster transition specifically, the coaches are going hard after eligible transfers and even a few unsigned 2021 players so the natural conclusion is that there will be at least 1, if not more, of current scholarship guys on the roster who won’t be back next year, and our coaches already know that.

Will be an interesting next few weeks and any of these grad transfer wings would immediately improve our team for next year.

Anyone have any gut feeling on when we will know if Luke decides to come back and start grad school or to graduate and move on to whatever successful career is next for him whether that be bass fishing, business or getting buckets internationally? Totally respect any decision he makes.

No clue on a timeline, and I'm sure that Luke can use as much time as he needs to sort out his future. From the school's standpoint, I'm not sure it matters from a roster building perspective because it isn't going to count against our resources (provided there is money for a 14th scholarship in the budget). Luke or no Luke they are looking at adding a grad transfer shooter and/or adding a big.

As for Luke, he would already be in the process of applying to grad schools if he's wanting to use his extra year. If he were really interested in going somewhere else, he'd be in the transfer portal or will be soon.

That is affirmative, they were here together.
I thought so, but was not really sure. In any case, that was an entirely different dynamic because big brother was already here, was one of the best players on the team, and was a Senior when his brother joined the team as a recruited Freshman. In the case of the Rice brothers, the older brother might not want to do anything that could possibly cut into his brother's minutes, even though I realize that they play different guard positions.

I'll have to check, but my recollection was that Fitz the younger was here, then Fitz the elder transferred here. MrJ, does that check out?

You are indeed correct about Bobby. Just found a Dave Fairbank article from 4/15/95 announcing Bobby's transfer to W&M, with the article stating that Terry was a Freshman. In many ways Bobby was the final piece that led to Charlie Woollum beginning to make the Tribe relevant in basketball again for the first time since Bruce Parkhill left for Penn State. According to the article, Charlie had already signed Jermaine Harmon and Randy Bracey to letters on intent and David Grabuloff had transferred in from Florida State for the second semester of the 1994-95 season so he was eligible for the second semester of the 1995-96 season. For some reason, I am thinking that Bobby must have been immediately eligible for the 1995-96 season because I still remember the 3 point shot that he hit in the last minutes of our CAA quarterfinal game in the Richmond Coliseum against VCU in 1997 that sealed a victory and put us in the semi finals for what I believe might have been the first time since I think we won a game in Hampton in 1988. It was the first time that VCU had lost to a CAA team at the coliseum since returning to the CAA the season before, and I think that Bobby was a Senior that year.. The next year, 1997-98, saw the arrival of the recruiting class that included Jimmy Moran, and many of us remember how that season ended.

Coach Boatner has started following 6’1 Conley Garrison, a grad transfer from Drury (DII). Garrison was first team all conference and all defensive team after averaging 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2.6 steals a game. I see coaches from WCU, UMKC, Youngstown St, Chattanooga, Akron, Towson, Jacksonville, NJIT, Columbia, Southern Illinois, Loyola Chicago, and NKU have started following Garrison since he entered into the portal yesterday. He is from Bolivar, MO.

6’1 Zep Jasper just finished his RS JR year so he will be a grad transfer with one or two years remaining if he elects for the extra year granted.

Was Charleston's top scorer this season and earned 2nd team all CAA. Possible CAA contender for POY in 21-22

This is just the new reality, but it's wild when you look at a team like CoC's Verbal Commits page and you see just how many players transfer in/out of a program. VC doesn't even mark it, but about half of their upperclassmen on the roster transferred in to CoC as well.

https://verbalcommits.com/schools/college-of-charleston

Even with all the Shaver transfers, we have a very low rate of transfers compared to most schools, Hofstra is the only other CAA school that comes close.

Shaver transfers? He wasn’t the head coach when all those guys went into the portal.

Personally I'm partial to "the refHugees."

Driving in Charleston this afternoon and the local sports talk shows had one of the local TV sports anchors do an update. They got to talking about the Jasper transfer and the TV guy went straight to the FloSports deal, basically saying that two of our local teams (Citadel and Charleston Southern) get more airtime because of their ESPN tie-in that does CofC, even though CofC plays in a more highly regarded conference.

Evidently they thought Jasper was looking for more exposure.

Ahh, some people are catching on, too bad it isn't our esteemed commissioner nor our former athletic director.

VMI's guard, Greg Parham, is entering the portal as a 5th year senior. He averaged over 18 points a game in leading the Keydets to their first winning season in 7 years.

Interesting Bucknell player, forward John Meeks has entered the portal. The 6'6 grad transfer averaged 25ppg/ 7rebs for the bison this season. Reminds me of a quicker Quinn Blair
