Kansas HC Candidate: Willie Fritz or other AAC coach
Seeing a lot of smoke for Tulane’s Willie Fritz to Kansas.

Think it’s a step down to go from Tulane to Kansas but it’s probably easy money. Fritz is 60 years old and never had a P5 job. Probably his only opportunity to jump, he’s been solid but it’s hard to see him contending for an AAC title.

It's definitely a step down. That is where coaches go when they want to end their career lol

Which, if you're 60 years old, means getting a fat 5 year, multimillion dollar golden parachute before you head into retirement. How KU couldn't see that coming is beyond me...

The truth is that, other than Mike Mangino, they haven't had a coach who finished their time at KU with a .500 or better record since they were in the Big 7 Conference (yes, that was the precursor to the Big 8 before Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) joined). They clearly need to think outside the box. I've seen some people suggest Jeff Monken and have him come in and run the option. Seems a better option than just about anybody else they could get.

I know a guy with a receding hairline and an overpriced salary/win ratio they could have.

Seriously does Dana have the highest $/win in the country? He has to

Skip Holtz also has some smoke which to me feels like the perfect fit for Kansas. Guy who can’t live up to his last name to a program that can’t live up to its conference prestige. He already owns a lot of Red and Blue, so he looks the part.

Randy Edsall disagrees.

Randy Edsall is exactly where he needs to be. He is also the best coach uconn can get.

Yeah, unless he suddenly comes through with a NY6 season at La Tech, he's never getting a good P5 job. This is his chance to jump and get the payday and try to make them a respectable 6-6 team.

Still, the best option for KU is going to be someone like Monken that can differentiate them from their opponents.

Is Doc Holliday still floating around out there? Seems like he could win the required 6 games at Kansas.

that wouldn't be a bad hire as 9-10 W's a season at La Tech with 7 straight bowls is about 'as good as it gets' for La Tech in CUSA.

he fits the mold for Kansas IMHO.

Fritz has strong past coachinfg ties and family ties to the Missouri and Kansas area. Becuse of that hold our breath when kansas missour jobs come open. That said K-State is the one he wanted, but the wyoming guy got that. Missouri also spoke withbhis agent, but they didnt offer him. Kansas is probaby too much of a rebuild at this point in time. He knows if he wins 8-9 games at Tulane this coming year or next he he could be in line for somthing like Iowa state if campbell leaves or kstate if there is a move there. Possible a texas school like ttu, tcu, or baylor.

Fritz would be a good hire for KU, or for just about any other program. He can get as much mileage out of a program as anybody, except for the Saban/Swinney types.

The problem is that he’s never worked in the P5 (not even as an assistant), his record is still <.500 at Tulane, and he’s 61 by the time the season starts. Most P5 programs will look at that combination and think they can do better. They’ll be very much mistaken, IMHO, but that’s how they will perceive it.

Yep I agree all around. He’s also getting almost $2m from Tulane (which they’ll give him a slight bump to stay). Also the Kansas job and AD are so toxic with the latter likely getting the boot may give Fritz serious pause. But don’t get me wrong - he may leave for Kansas. As said above it would be a home coming and he is a master at building programs. I’ll also say, all the close games and 6 win & 7 win seasons for fritz have come without an average AAC at the helm for Tulane. It’s his biggest failure, lack of closing the big QB. Now he has it, an above average QB who is going to be a sophomore and a great OC. I think this is his time for 8-10 wins (this year or next).

Has Les Miles been found criminally responsible and charged in those allegations?
