Some of you saying that Dakich is a good analyst/commentator apparently don't remember his track record with Memphis:
-Memphis will lose to Siena and can't guard a middle age fat man
-Memphis made a huge mistake firing Tubby Smith
-Memphis is not a very good program and got lucky in hiring Calipari
-Penny undermined Tubby to get the job
-Penny will be a disaster at Memphis and fans will get what they deserve after the way they treated Tubby
When was he interim coach at IU? He talked about that in one of his broadcasts for us earlier this year. I though Mike Davis was the interim after Booby Knight was fired and then led them to the NC game--Mike has gone way downhill since then (though my wife always enjoyed his sideline antics whenever we played UAB).

Its refreshing to hear a commentator speak the truth about teams rather than candy coat everything, suck up about the coaches, or scream non-stop like Dookie V. Jimmy Dykes is awful too. He calls almost exclusively SEC games and manages to get Kentucky comments in every game no matter who is playing.
Did you just call Dakich "refreshing to hear"? I think you need to go to Traders Point Church as well and then delete your account on here.
To a degree he is.
As a TV in-game analyst...he actually...wait for it...ANALYZES the game.
I remember the 1st game of this season vs. St. mary's he pointed out a play where Moussa went to guard a guy on the wing. He pointed out Moussa's positioning was off because he allowed the guy room to scoot to the left and go baseline. He noted if Moussa had played a little more on the right of the ball handler, the guy would have been forced to the right, away from the basket.
It was a little thing but I found it good commentary.
Instead of "oh Baby yeah, 5 star diaper dandy Baby..."
My favourite was when DJ crossed halfcourt and passed the ball to a cutting Cisse at the 3 point line, when Cisse had 2 defenders right between him and the basket. He said that there were no words to describe how bad the pass was. He was right, but mostly I can't stand him.

Yes, but did he steer them away because he was trying to get Tubby fired so that he could get the job? Neither of us know the answer to that, but I can think of a few other reasons to steer his players away from Tubby.

Those are radio guy hot takes. He makes a lot of those. If he said negative things about Pearl and Barnes at UTk, you would find him hilarious, endearing, and "surprisingly honest."
So just stop with the hate because he's "mean" to memphis.

Ultimately, only 3 of Penny's high school players have contributed here for more than 3 games--Alo, Malcolm, and Jayden; none of those players is a program changer by any stretch of the imagination.

I dunno.
He's a blowhard.
People are shocked and appalled that he says things about Memphis that are mean. Like "the offense sucks--which it did. Or that Moussa was a 5* defender with 1* offense. Which he did.
He is equally as critical of other teams. Some just might call it brutally honest. I know southern folks don't tend to like them abrasive northerners.
In any event, the twitter comments he made were a nothingburger. Saying people were "bitching" then being called sexist for that is ridiculous. Then the lady saying she was "violated" by her comments. GTFOOH.

Violated is too harsh a word, imo. But he said he wanted to wrastle her scantily clothed body in the water, doe.
....I'm sure 'the boys' giggled and thumbed that one up a lot.
He's really nothing to me...I just mute him because his voical tones sit too harshly on my ears. all that ear-training and music **** made the drums sensitive. lol

I'm not shocked and appalled at the things he says that are mean toward Memphis. I'm shocked and appalled that people on here actually think he's a good analyst.
I was not commenting on the stuff he said on Twitter. It doesn't register that much for me because I have seen media members say much worse than what he said and get praised for it.

True. But, Tubby's relationship with the local HS and AAU cartel was a big issue. And, a big reason why Tubby failed here.

I thought more of that was self-inflicted than some grand plan by Penny.

And, you may be right about that. Tubby definitely deserves some/most of the blame.
Dakich, who has been known to search for Twitter conversations referencing him and pick fights with fans and other media members over those comments, then started going back-and-forth with Kalman-Lamb and Dr. Johanna Mellis, an assistant professor in the history department at Ursinus College who hosts a a podcast on sports and labor issues.
Dakich talked about the argument the following day on his radio show, insulting Kalman-Lamb's appearance, spelling out his name and repeatedly referencing his office hours at Duke, which was interpreted by some as doxxing or inciting his fans to take malicious action.

I'm afraid it was. I knew he was done when I heard Mr. Leonard Draper on the radio say that he invited Tubby to lunch, and Tubby declined.
Yeah, defending Dakich as a "keeping it real guy" is a stretch. He's a shock jock. He classically thinks bad takes are better than no takes. His analysis is nothing. It's like any old coach watching games on tv and yelling things at the box. "Moussa doesn't know how to play offense." Duh? Okay!!
He has issues. His analysis also continuously mentions the ongoing feud he has with "Memphis radio guys" J&J. That's the kind of stuff going through his head while he is giving "fresh analysis".
Although, I do agree that this suspension episode is classic cancel culture. I haven't seen anything sexist in the comments. "Go at it" in the water was a shot at her swimming background - nothing sexual or sexist.
