RE: ASUN FOOTBALL
So who wins the AQ7 2021 season?

JaxSt and SHSU have to be favorites.

Be great to see UNA or KSU against one of the AQ7 in the playoffs.

Thanks.

Do miss playing ASU. You had the better of the series but most of the games were really good.

If the NCAA changes the transition rule, it would be great to see both UNA and KSU in the playoffs. And it would be cool to see 2 or 3 from the "AQ7" in too...

That would be a hard chore to pull off though...

What he said.

While JSU may be a favorite, you'd have to include EKU in that group.

They beat the Gamecocks in Jacksonville in 2019.

What a miserable season that was...

Man, a lot has happened since then...including a coaching regime change at EKU. I'm not sure what to make of the team we'll have next year. We might be good, but I'm not at the point of making bold predictions just yet.

Anyone watching the KSU vs Shorter game?

DII Shorter took a quick lead 6 minutes into the game.

RE: ASUN FOOTBALL
This week's STATS poll still has KSU at No. 9 and JSU at No. 10, though JSU has slipped into a tie for the 10th spot with SIU.

Lots of movement within the Top 10, but no one's had the courtesy to drop out.

RE: ASUN FOOTBALL
Nice for the ASUN to have a couple Top 10 teams.
And the target of our desire is #14 and another is receiving votes.

It's even better when you consider EKU, UCA, and UNA aren't playing spring football.

Both the Colonels and the Bears have an excellent shot of making the Top 25 (at a minimum) while the Lions will almost certainly get at least a few votes.

It's petty of me, but I want nothing less than to see the MVFC and CAA fans who laughed at the ASUN's stated goal of being "the best FCS conference in the country" eat their words as their favorite teams are ground into dust by ASUN opponents.

Of course, being a JSU fan, I'm intimately aware that getting teams in the Top 25 isn't even half the battle. The hard part is getting those teams into the playoffs and then having those teams make extended runs toward Frisco. And somebody's got to win the whole thing. That's really the only way to earn national respect.

But multiple teams in the Top 10 is a nice first step. I'll take it.

I feel like you're being generous with assuming we'd receive votes this spring, but maybe so. I know we played JSU pretty tough last October. It's hard to gauge exactly where we would be if we were playing a Big South schedule, since the only other games we played were FBS opponents. We held our own decently well, though.

UNA has one more year under the transition cloud, so hopefully our recruiting can pick up now that we are able to tell kids we can compete for a playoff spot when they step on campus. Wouldn't be surprised if in 2022 we are the "weakest" ASUN team, but still pretty good in our own right. Hopefully the competition will make us ALL stronger. I would love to regularly see 3 or more ASUN teams in the playoffs.

I think the rumors are already out there. The only thing left is confirmation, but I don't think that will come until sometime next year. UTC and Austin Peay are my odds on favorites, but it's anybody's guess at this point.

If it's UTC or another SoCon school, they'll need to announce their intentions one year in advance, in order to avoid an additional $250K penalty on top of the regular $1M exit fee.

I'm not sure what the cutoff date for that penalty is... but if something's going to happen by Fall 2022, I would imagine we'd need to know something by July 2021 at the absolute latest. (And really, much earlier than that, since both conferences would need to make their schedules.)

I could see the scenario unfolding in two waves, with Peay (for example) joining as the 6th school for Fall 2022, then UTC coming on board a season later in Fall 2023.

The reason I see it playing out this way is, it's easy for Peay to justify the move now. They've made a huge financial commitment to football, and they're not going to see much of a return on that investment in the OVC. The ASUN would be seen as an upgrade (or at least a lateral move) in pretty much every sport.

For UTC, though, they'd be coming from the tradition, stability, and national reputation of the SoCon to "Wait ... The ASUN has football now?!"

It'll be a far easier sales job for them if they wait another season to let the ASUN do its thing. We just need to prove our worth in hoops in the 2021-22 season (not passing the SoCon, necessarily, but distancing ourselves from the OVC, Southland, etc.) and making waves in football in fall 2022. Multiple bids ... multiple playoff wins, especially when paired against SoCon schools.

If the ASUN schools don't trip over our own shoelaces, a UTC move would become a no-brainer.

That'd give the ASUN 14 full members and 7 ASUN Football schools. Any expansion past that point would be based more on long-term conference goals than necessity.
