2021-22 NBA season
Anyone know how they plan to structure the season? Are they expecting a normal 82-game season over the normal calendar?

They definitely aren't playing 82. It will either be 70 or 68. I think they intend to release the rest of the schedule during the around to all star break

Vandiver: I'm talking about NEXT season. This season is 72 games.

My bad. I still think they'll try to get down to 68 or 70. The players contracts are guaranteed, so that don't care about the arrangements between the networks and the owners. They just want fewer games without a reduction in compensation.

The NBA players care about TV revenue because their salaries are tied to league revenue (BRI, "basketball-related income"). If there was enough of a reduction in games that TV revenue dropped significantly, and BRI drops even more than expected, then the players get less money. There is already an escrow in place this year, holding back 10 percent of player salaries in anticipation of a possibly lower BRI. The league and NBPA agreed that if more than 10 percent needs to be deducted because of lower BRI, the deductions will be spread out over this season and the two following seasons.
