That would be perfect for all parties!

Dixie State already has SFA, Tarleton and Sam.

So for Sam to have Tarleton, Dixie, six AQ7 games, SE Missouri and Northern Arizona - would just need one game. Perhaps they can get a former Southland squad just to finish things off

Mannnnnn for Sam that’s a tough schedule. Especially if you include the other AQ7 schools. Nice to see it laced with FCS opponents. Should be an interesting fall. Especially if Shoemaker takes over at QB1.

For ACU it would be the six of the AQ7, Tarleton, Southern Utah and SMU. That leaves us two short.

Looks like no Tarleton State. Not surprised Dixie State is not on the list.

The 5 ex-SLC and 2 ex-OVC schools are all at about 9 or 10 games set, assuming they play 6 games against each other.

My guess is Tarleton will schedule a couple more of the Texas schools (They have Lamar and Dixie State already on the schedule). But they will need to find 5 more games.

RE: Hybrid ASUN / WAC Football League for '21
DENVER – Officially titled the WAC-ASUN Challenge, the Western Athletic Conference and ASUN Conference have agreed on a football scheduling alliance that will allow for the seven institutions to be eligible for an automatic qualification into the 2021 NCAA FCS Playoffs.

"I am very pleased the WAC and ASUN were able to work through various issues and compromise on the elements of a mutually-beneficial scheduling alliance for the upcoming football season," said WAC Commissioner Jeff Hurd. "The fact that it came together in a relatively short period of time is a credit to the administrators and coaches of all the involved institutions."

The alliance will feature Abilene Christian, Lamar University, Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin from the WAC and Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State from the ASUN.

WAC members Dixie State and Tarleton will participate in the joint schedule but will not be eligible for the group's AQ as they will be in their second year of NCAA reclassification to Division I.

  • Fall 2021 Football Schedules in the ASUN-WAC Challenge
  • Fall 2021 Automatic Bid - The ASUN has applied for AQ (automatic qualification) into the NCAA FCS Championship and meets all current criteria and all proposed amendment criteria (NCAA Proposal 2020-18=core schools, one-year continuity with three).
  • ASUN-WAC Challenge 2021 - Seven squads (Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin) will play a single round-robin schedule with the top team earning an AQ. The conference standings will be presented as the ASUN-WAC Challenge.

This announcement today really enhanced the scheduling for the school(s) in the arrangement.

With the additions today, Sam Houston State has an impressive 10-game slate (curious if they add an 11th) with the AQ7, Dixie State, Tarleton State, SE Missouri and Northern Arizona. Home games of note from the non-traditional list of opponents are SEMO, Jax State and EKU. As a fan of FCS football, that's an exciting lineup with some new matchups that we may not have seen before.

This is easily a multiple bid league in its lone year of existence, hopefully setting the stage for '22 WAC and '22 ASUN football

There's no doubt they're adding an 11th game, my assumption is that Bobby might actually putting in some effort for once and trying to get a FBS buy game to help make-up for COVID losses.

I have a feeling that FBS games are pretty "filled up" at this point but there's a lot of movement at the FCS level (think OVC, SLC, MEAC, Big South, ASUN and WAC) where some things have only been happening in the last few months that will warrant some arrangements.

Right now, SHSU has five home games (including attractive games vs SEMO, JaxSt & EKU), four road games and a neutral site (which is essentially a home game). With that being the case, I'd be open to SHSU opening up on the road against say a former SLC foe (do them a favor) to get a return game in Huntsville a few years out

Yeah you're right, looks like the only feasible option would be if someone got bought out from their game due to a scheduling issue. The fact that TXST doesn't play Sam and Lamar on a consistent basis is mind-boggling to me, keep the money within the university system. Looks like Lamar has 2024 scheduled with them, but their AD was smart enough to have a FBS game for each of the next 5 years set.

2024

They both joined July 1st, 2020 and complete their 4 year transition June 30th, 2024.

However the ASUN and other conferences are pushing the NCAA to shorten that to three years, so these schools might become eligible in the 2023 season.

From what I have read it looks like the ASUN will have six FCS Football teams for the 2022 season which explains the one year deal from their standpoint. So the question is what does the WAC do in 2022 to get an AQ? I assume that Tarleton and Dixie won't count until they are eligible for post season play.

The WAC and ASUN are both under impression that they will get waivers should they need them in ‘22. Seems about right to me. I’m pretty sure with five FCS playoff eligible schools plus two into their transition, should be good.

ASUN SAAC is leading effort to end the lengthy eligibility timeline during transitions or at least shortening by a year. Could be significant for WAC
