Congrats to Andrew. At the 6A level in the Atlanta metro area, you are going up against some serious talent on a game-by-game basis, so that's quite the accomplishment. Would love to see HCMB continue to rake in a recruit or two from the metro ATL area using his ties there annually. Because the state of GA is so crazy about high school football and they put out so much FB talent, the number of stud hoopsters is often overlooked...but, the area and state is loaded with basketball talent.

Kid must feel pretty good about his commitment right about now. If Coach By can land two 3 stars in his first two years there’s no telling what he can do in a normal recruiting cycle that includes a visit during a weekend when both the football stadium is full and the new hoops arena is rocking. I wouldn’t be surprised if JMU hoops doesn’t start landing the occasional 4 star.

Devon Savage is rated 3 stars by 247 sports now (in top 65 at his position), as well as McConnell (top 40 or so at his position). I also recall Edwards and Amati listed as 3 stars by at least one rating service. Mensah was rated 3/4 stars.

Thanks for this. Certainly, pre-college ranking are not the be-all, end-all, but I did a quick glance at the other people on his positional list. It looks like he is in the cluster of the highest rated recruits for mid-majors. In other words, we did not out-recruit an ACC school or anything like that, but he is supposed to be at the same level as players UNI and Richmond are getting. This is excellent. This is exactly the level where we should be right now.

One note on Lewis- keep in mind that his girlfriend (Nikki Oppenheimer) will still be at JMU next year on the woman’s hoops team. Could be a reason for Matt to return. I also noticed that a guy who played with Jayvis Harvey in Durham is transferring from FIU and highly sought after. Another guard.

Must be nice for Coach By to have the program be in such a good place that we really won’t need to rely on transfers. Maybe if a real difference maker falls in JMUs lap but I don’t see us going transfer shopping based on who is slated to come back.

Christmas was also rated 3 stars, and was considered by many to be LR’s best recruit. Certainly ODU wanted him, and their fans were a bit surprised he signed with JMU.

Speaking of Christmas, 247 sports ranks JMU's recruits by its scouting score (scroll to bottom of link). Christmas came in at no. 3 on that. He had the most impressive list of offers of anyone on the team, to include Texas Tech, Oregon, VCU.

I haven’t seen JMU linked to any transfers or recruits thus far. They are recruiting from a position of strength and are at capacity with several good returning players and “new” players scheduled to join the program.

I did not know the UT-Martin coach passed away unexpectedly in November

Actually, I am not sure what the added year of eligibility means with regards to scholarship limits. Can we add a new player that would normally push us over the limit? Or can we only exceed the limit in order to accommodate players currently on our roster?
