NMSU has pretty much every returning starter leave the program recently. Many of them landing P-5 offers. Clearly the head coach has lost this program. The kids aren't playing for him anymore. I think they're making a point to the AD that their needs to be a change. So honestly, we don't have 85 scholarship players out there. We probably have around 60, maybe less because of the players leaving and other players deciding not to play this season.

What happened for it to get that bad?

40-7, yeah your coach lost control.

I just know this much, they were desperate enough to sign a kid from Holland, TX lol.... I get that there are diamonds in the rough out there, but not from Holland lol.

Going to the small schools.

NMSU Football Twitter page stopped posting at half time. The SID must have gone home or is searching for a new job.

My hope is Tarleton will stomp Coach Doug Martin out of a job.

Worst case we aren't making his case any easier.

Nice classy showing for Tarleton Athletics. I just hope that some day high & mighty nmsu can accept us as a peer institution.

The Sun Bowl at sunset is a sight to behold. Hope we can do this again in the Fall.

Next time will be at Aggie Memorial... and hopefully with a different head coach.

Hoping Dixie stomps NMSU in two weeks. Maybe that will jolt Mario out of his 2017 Arizona Bowl sobbing hugging Martin stupor he still seems to be in.

As an outsider, there appears to be something dreadfully wrong with the Aggie football program. There is no way a first year FCS school should physically dominate ab FBS program.

As an insider, hopefully you know by now that Tarleton is not your average first year FCS school.

Aggie football has been bad for most of its existence. We thought we had momentum in recruiting after the Arizona Bowl win. The coaches were saying that the 2018 recruiting class was even better than the bowl team. That year the Aggies went 3-9. The year after we went 2-10. There has been a lot of talk and no results. We keep hearing the coaches say BS excuses about facilities and players and whatnot but not a lot of self criticism. Doug Martin took us to our third ever bowl game and we are eternally grateful for that, but he caught lightning in a bottle with that team. We aren't sure how to fix football at NMSU. UNM and UTEP are in a similar boat than us but they have better facilities, conference affiliation, and higher salaries for their coaching staff.

Yes we are but NMSU’s football program needs a major change. And I already know the response, but FCS should be in the discussion. I’m not saying FCS is the answer, but it needs to be in the conversation.

It's the curse of Warren Woodson.

Woodson was the winningest football coach in Aggie history (63-36-3) taking NMSU to two post season Sun Bowl appearances; going undefeated in 1960 (11-0). He had winning records in seven of his ten seasons at NMSU but was forced into retirement at the age of 65 because of New Mexico law (at the time). NMSU hasn't had a winning football coach since then. And, until NMSU's 2017 Arizona Bowl appearance hadn't gone to a bowl game since 1960 when Woodson was our coach.

Both the 8th and 5th place teams in the FCS 2019 FCS place teams were better than NMSU.

NMSU already did a study about dropping down to FCS and the result would be that it would cost the university $1 million in revenue compared to staying at the FBS level. We would also lose the rivalry games between UNM and UTEP. They'd rather us keep on losing and earn money, than drop down and continue to keep losing with less money.

As a conference, the answer and goal remains FBS. Tarleton is proving to be FBS worthy, while nmsu will need to work its way back to it. Just as Tarleton mbb will need to work its way to ncaa tourney status. With the other TX sxhools coming on board, we're now in this together, as a conference.
