2020-21 basketball
The full schedule was released today. Only 1 non D1 (William Carey) on a Wednesday while the other 2 OOC home games are on Saturdays vs South Alabama and UL Monroe. My question is with baseball usually starting up around Valentine's Day and with basketball (men at 7 pm and women at 6 pm) playing on Friday nights this year, does this mean the first few Friday home baseball games will start at 3 or 4 pm?? Also, interesting there's no games between Dec 19 and Jan 1 which I'm assuming is to allow time for postponed or add on games in the event one is cancelled. I believe i heard that there's no games the week before the tournament to allow for conference games to be made it.

Official Schedule (with available times, all CT)
Saturday, Nov. 28 - at Milwaukee - 3 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 29 - North Dakota (Milwaukee) - 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 2 - William Carey - 7 p.m.

I didn't think USM sports could get worse then you had to bring up basketball.

I expect this team to do much better than last year's team. The talent, size, athleticism, and depth will be much better than it was all of last year. It will take them a while to gel, but this team will be better and should be exciting to watch.

I'm glad the staff was able to find an opponent for this weekend. I'm excited to watch this team get started and see them improve as the season progresses.

RE: 2020-21 basketball
I mean, was there ever an assumption it wouldn't be? We hired a guy who's never done anything or shown any inspiration at all. We hired a former player because a bunch of old farts in Oak Grove wanted 'their man' here, even though they haven't attended a basketball game since Ladner was a player.

I'll be honest, I have never seen interest in Southern Miss, as a whole, be so far in the dumps that people just don't care at all. Everyone I went to school with who went to all the games, painted up, bought season tickets after graduation, they're all gone. They aren't going to support the black hole USM has become.

A little good news... Last season, only approximately 400 season tix were sold for basketball. This year, with the limitations that CUSA has set for attendance due to covid, we have sold out the 1,200 season tickets that were available. Also, numbers of Hardwood Club members are up.

The basketball team has a long way to go, but they will get much better as the season progresses.

I've genuinely heard this line since 2014.

RE: 2020-21 basketball
A good, expected and convincing win last night. Not here saying all the problems are solved but a good showing considering the competition. Never heard the reasoning on why 3 key players were missing (Pinckney, Johnson and Pierre). One of the biggest noticeable issues we're having is our FT shooting. Game 1 at Jacksonville we shot 8-19 and then last night we shoot 6-17 which combined equates to less than 40%.....FROM THE FREE THROW LINE. Turnovers each game were 13 and 12 so not too bad but need to get those to under 10 a game. Next up is a road game vs Tulane on Dec 9th.

Pinckney was in concussion protocol. Johnson and Pierre was a coach's decision based on an "small academic" issue that they also ran the coliseum steps in weighted vests for. They should all be back for the Tulane game.

Mark Jaackson has also been out the first 2 games in concussion protocol. He should make his Golden Eagle debut at Tulane.

Pinckney took a elbow to the forehead while drawing a charge vs Jacksonville. Jaackson got one in practice when he had his nose broken back in early November and he is just now getting back. Concussions also happen occasionally in basketball when the head smashes against the floor.
