Most likely, but their current contract situation with him is much much worse.

So your plan is for KY-U to investigate themselves and put themselves on probation for possibly more than one year so they can get rid of their current coach that has a huge buyout?

Have you been advising Phil Fuller?

Perfect time for a program reset. Save yourself 50 mil on a buyout, and self impose a 2 year ban. This Covid stuff ain’t going anywhere for a while.

Self-impose a ban for what? What do you think they have on Cal? If they have something and haven’t already exposed it, they become a party to it.

The team is bad this year. Other than that, in his time at Kentucky, they own more NCAA Tournament wins (31), Final Four appearances (8), Elite Eight berths (7) and Sweet 16 showings (8) than any other school. It’s going to take much much more than one bad year for Kentucky to even entertain the thought of parting with that golden goose.

You wouldn't have to dig very deep to find something on Calipari. At least when he was at Memphis, there was plenty of shadiness going on. The NCAA must just be willfully ignorant (or complicit) in his payment of players. College students aren't the most tight-lipped about such things.

Then why don’t they do it?

Almost every Tiger fan loved him when he was our coach, and you can't blame him for leaving for KY. But they way he crapped on the Memphis program after he left is why I can't stand the guy. I am enjoying the helloutta watching KY struggle this year.

See, I don't buy into this train of thought. I don't hate Cal per se, but I hate the system that says a school like UK can look at a school like U of M and say "I want that" and then poof, they get it. Cal could have won championships here in Memphis, or he could leave and win at Kentucky, but his system would have worked at either school. Yes, he did whatever to get DRose, but he also paid whatever to get AD from Illinois to Kentucky.

I hate the system in college football where only a handful of teams are allowed to compete for the "national championship". That's inequity. But coaches leaving for other jobs? That's life. Happens in all sports at all levels. In fact, it happens in all careers and industries.

Exactly. The only difference is that most know better than to take potshots at their former employer on the way out.

Exactly. You always leave graciously; especially when your former employer is offering to pay you over $5M/year to stay.

Does it not bother him that he is not welcome at a school where he is the all-time winningest head coach? Frankly, I think its really sad.

It's all his fault for how he left. No one in their right mind has issue with leaving Memphis for Kentucky. Heck, we didn't begrudge Bartow for leaving Memphis for Illinois (which is no where near Kentucky's level).

Larry has the most legal wins.

I think you mean non-vacated wins. If only truly legal (abide-by-every-rule) wins were allowed, there are a bunch of coaches who you would've never heard of and a bunch of NC records that would belong to someone else. Cal's (our) wins were vacated, but Self's weren't even though he played Darrell Arthur. UCLA might have an NC or two, but not a string of them. It's like anything else that involves big money - the fix is going to be in, and the big ones are still going to eat the little ones.

It would be preposterous for him to be in trouble

But

His record is early heavy. From 2010-15, in six seasons they made 4 final fours, in one of them they made the final and in another one they won it all. They also had an Elite 8 and an NIT. Really good stuff. John Wall, Anthony Karl Towns and Anthony Davis were number one draft picks

Since then

No final fours. Some elite eights but a major drop from those earlier years so the natives are restless. The trend hurts them

A number of UK fans will tell you that their 2015 loss to Wisconsin in the final four, spoiling UK's perfect season, took something out of Calipari that he has never recovered from.

Who knows what their wacko fans think. They were primed for a deepish run last year after finishing 25-6. The three years before that consisted of three S16s and two E8s. Two top 7 finishes. This year gets an * and they’ll (as always) be prominently ranked heading into next year. He’s not going anywhere unless he wants to.

He's definitely not going anywhere due to his ridiculous contract (which I love, because it will punish UK's largesse for years to come). But he has actually lost most of the fanbase for being, well, Cal.

This year gets an * and they’ll (as always) be prominently ranked heading into next year. He’s not going anywhere unless he wants to.

Why does this year get an * ?

Self-impose a ban for what? What do you think they have on Cal? If they have something and haven’t already exposed it, they become a party to it.

The team is bad this year. Other than that, in his time at Kentucky, they own more NCAA Tournament wins (31), Final Four appearances (8), Elite Eight berths (7) and Sweet 16 showings (8) than any other school. It’s going to take much much more than one bad year for Kentucky to even entertain the thought of parting with that golden goose.

Some elite eights but a major drop from those earlier years so the natives are restless insane. The trend hurts them

Why does this year get an * ?

Because that buys Pastner another year.

GT can't afford to buy him out. that's what buys him another year.
