By the way, maybe my aging memory is failing me, but I don't recall noticing this local freshman sniper on the roster:
https://athletics.bellarmine.edu/sports/...rogan/6700

I presume he's a walk-on. Scotty does have a history of developing some of those quite nicely.

Sure he won't contribute much until his junior year although got to like his height 6'4. Good size for guard. Hopefully he is quick enough to defend and maybe help out on the boards

With CJ and Ethan coming back next year and 3 already signed, there is only one more scholarship left. My guess is that will go to a transfer who can play the 4 or 5.

Wow, if CJ and Ethan return next year that means all nine players in a nine man rotation will be returning. All of them next year would be seniors or juniors. Would make it tough for younger players to get playing time. I would expect some departures.

Ben Johnson (Bellarmine commit) of Lexington Catholic (KY) broke the LexCath scoring record last night. He dropped 51 on CAL last month and is one of the leading candidates for Mr. Basketball

Johnson is like Brent Bach--a scorer. He might not be as athletic as Bach but they both knew how to score. Hopefully, Johnson will be more prepared defensively than Bach was so he can make a bigger impact in his first two seasons.

He should do well in the Bellarmine offense. He is actually an early signee, not a commit.

RE: Recruiting class
I know this board is for BU recruiting, but with nine players supposedly reporting back who are the nine players with the most minutes this year, I am wondering with the relaxed NCAA transfer rules are we in danger of losing a player to larger DI schools, most specifically Pedro. We are all aware of "5th year seniors" who were stars at schools in conferences like the A10,AAC etc. who decide to take their one year of remaining eligibility to schools like UK, U of L, etc. Pedro, Ethan and Dylan all impressed the ASUN coaches, could they attract interest of some school in the big conferenes?

I doubt one of those three would leave as they are pretty much guaranteed of most of the playing time next year. Now some of the freshmen or little used sophomores might be considering a move to somewhere they could get playing time but that would be laterally at best if not D2.

Btw, Moves brought up the other day the question of whether Cook, Weyer or Chitty could have come back this season. That would have been something to have one of them back (especially Cook.) Did the NCAA allow anybody to get another year for the fiasco that was 2019-2020?

I don't know the answer offhand, but, more than once, have pondered how nice it would've been to had Cook back for this season.

BU signee Curt Hopf scored 23 and snagged a class record 19 rebounds in leading his squad to the Indiana Class A title the other day.

Good may turn out to be a major get for BU. His unusual high school career (sitting out his entire junior year) probably caused him to be under rated by a lot of schools.

Yeah, we know Scotty has a knack for picking up a "steal."

If memory serves, Hopf was a high D-I type of recruit early on (a lot of IU chatter in particular); he seems to have the potential to be a big contributor for the Knights.

RE: Recruiting class
A Courier Journal article regarding U of L returning players for next basketball season stated that Malik Williams has an extra year of eligibility due to the virus shutdown and it does not affect the overall scholarship limit. Looking on the internet at NCAA websites it appears that is the case. This would mean that the two BU players eligible for that extra year of eligibility would not affect the number of scholarships available. In other words, if they both had decided to play next season they would not be using up a slot available for recruiting. This of course would only be true if the University can afford to fund a scholarship above the NCAA usual limit.

Braxton Beverly a former Perry County Central (Hazard, Ky) standout and four year player at NC State will be transferring for his "extra" year to EKU.

Ben Johnson, Kentucky Mr. Basketball and future Knight:

Offhand, I can think of at least one Mr. Basketball runner-up who played for BU: Andy Penick.

Another was Pedro Bradshaw.

I think Ben will be part of the starting lineup next year.

RE: Recruiting class
Just got back from the St. X signing day ceremony for seniors who signed to play sports in colleges next year. (I was there to see my grandson who is going to play football at Butler University next year), As usual, there were a number of guys in various sports including Ayden Mudd who signed to play basketball at Bellarmine. I noticed when Ayden was standing next to my grandson who is 6"3" Ayden looked only a couple of inches taller. Looked a little generous to call him 6'7".

Bradshaw was a "finalist" for Mr. Basketball, but am not sure he was runner-up.

Yeah, I can see Johnson starting next year and am excited to see him in a BU uniform.
