The better question is, will people with Legion Field Stadium Certificates be able to access ADA compliant seating on the home side of the new stadium? These uncertain times....

RE: Stadiums first big concrete pour is happening now
Hearing differing estimates regarding seating capacity. At the signing meeting Ingram indicated 41K. Previously we've heard 45K and 47K. When the grass area was replaced with 1200 extra seats I thougth 47K was the number. I suspect the seating is 41K with total capacity, w/standing room, is in the 45K-47K range. Ingram also mentioned that stadium is designed to be able to add temporary seating(to get to the 45K-47K range) and also to add permanent seating if/when necessary.

Stadiums first big concrete pour is happening now
I was watching the webcam when they installed the turf at the practice facility and the BHD wasn't painted on the field...it looked like they were sewing it into the turf. I'm guessing that wouldn't be the case here, since other events will go on, but it was strange. It seems that if the logo is woven in at the edges the middle of the logo would have to be solid and more-slippery, right?

EDIT: Wait, duh, I guess the logo is made of the same turf. I’ll see myself out...

Nice play of tongue in cheek but as is well known, the Stadium Certificates only apply to football games played at Legion Field. That list is about to be severely shortened. During their time they were factors in keeping NFL owners from using it for anything but bartering bait for new home stadiums, making financial sense for Bama to move its conference games to its home stadium where it could collect premiums on prime seats (after TIDE PRIDE was instituted in the mid80s) and cost UAB the opportunity to get advance sale of prime 50 yd line seats by the thousands.I expect UAB will make up for this in Protective Stadium where ALL seats can have premium charges added (like Bama does).

Progress!!!

First it was "Black Betty", then it was "Old Yeller" and now "Big Red" is being disassembled. This is the last of the large cranes.

I was wondering how folks would get to the upper deck. Now I see the addition of stairs upfront.

Looks like all the debris and construction material has been removed from the field. Guess they will be laying the turf soon.

Amazing how fast the upper deck was installed. I expect the turf will be done before the April seat selection process.

I would think they would wait on turk installation to make sure nothing happens to it - risp or tears, for example...

I just hope we’re not waiting on the Turk installation to get here from Constantinople because it’ll be coming from Istanbul

They are already preparing for turf installation today. Completing the grading of the existing ground on one side and adding more soil and grading it on the other.

Other activity today:

• The concourse and ramp railings are being installed.
• Railings at the top of the stands are being installed.
• Fencing is being constructed along the new sidewalk at 22nd St.
• Forms are being constructed for the staircases leading from 22nd to the tower plaza.
• Concrete is being poured and finished on the tower plaza
• Installation of the score board is well underway

I was told seat selection will be done using a virtual seating view, not an actual visit to the stadium. My source is pretty good, but I'd love to be able to visit before deciding on where I want to sit.

When I paid, I asked if there would be a full seat chart when the selection process takes place. He told me they'd have a virtual layout type tool/program that will show you what the field will look like from the selected section. It's so much smaller than Legion Field that I figure it'll feel close no matter where I sit.

I hope the ramps and stairs will be kept to a minimal few and more use is made of escalators and elevators as befits a modern stadium. There are old people like me with limited mobility as well as disabled veterans / wounded warriors, people who have suffered strokes and heart problems and probably some others who can't climb long stairways like we had to at Legion Field (without hand rails).

Doubt escalators or elevators(unless you're in the boxed/suite area). Maybe they'll let the normal fan use the elevators to get to their 2nd or 3rd level seat on the upper home side(but I doubt that, too). Easiest way in looks to be the Northwest corner gate.

in other words, the Proteective Stadium is just a new smaller version of the 1900s style stadium we are leaving.
