(01-31-2021 11:50 AM)Chillie Willie Wrote:  I thought the requirement to "pause" the program for COVID was dictated by the conference. The only control the governor has is how many fans can attend events.

I meant my comments both more broadly and more specifically than just the men’s basketball program.

More broadly ODU (not the governor) opted to cancel the football season. That’s been debated at length on this forum, and I side strongly with those who note that the administration is entitled to the benefit of the doubt regarding what was the best decision - - given that they have much greater access to pertinent information than anyone on this board.

But it is undeniable that this decision put ODU very much in the minority of Division I collegiate programs. Second guessing on whether or not that was a smart decision is inevitable. To the extent that COVID lockdowns proves to be as politically driven as I suspect they were, ODU may be in for some 20/20-hindsight discomfort in the coming years, which will affect student involvement, fan interest, recruiting, conference affiliation and so on.

More specifically, the governor (not ODU) imposed the 250-person arena limitation. I’ve already lost out on two of my purchased games. I put in for BOTH of this coming weekend’s Marshall games and were looking forward to them.

That’s not on ODU. There is nothing a state-run school can do in the face of a media-timid jellyfish. But it is still a deep disappointment.

In short, no I don't think so. This stuff really only matters to the butt-hurt wku fans & similar types. Actual administrators understand the situation and its complexities

One more reason why the A10 would be so much better for us. A lot easier to stay in a "bubble" when you're driving to Charlotte, Richmond, Nova, DC and Philly. Sounds like our guys got it in the airport somehow.

Eh, in the end, does it really matter? We either win the conference tournament or we don’t. Nothing else matters at this point.

In some ways, it might be more interesting to see some different guys play.

While correct, I like to watch us win. And it would probably help if our guys were healthy and cohesive, which has been impossible this year.

I’m looking forward to a game thread and another incredibly researched and thorough post by 78. If he’s up to it. No pressure.

Totally agree. And I don’t even necessarily agree it is that bad. Every bad team has top scorers. Doesn’t mean they are good, just means they have a scoring role on a bad team. Maybe some of the others could be just as or more effective.

Anybody that can’t get out of our conference tournament, no matter the path, doesn’t belong anywhere near the tournament anyway.

Maybe the freshman will play and Fleshlight...I mean Bluelight will stop his barking about the youngins playing.

I want to see Brady play.

Well past results in the tournament would contradict that statement, the conference rep has won what the last 4 of 6 1st round games? It's pretty competitive at the top though no one has done what's needed to get an at large. WKU has a 5 star recruit, a couple 4 stars and several high 3 star recruits. There's a lot of talent on that team. Apparently though Stans can't coach himself out of a paper bag though.

Yeah, I agree with that as well. Just think this year is a bit of an asterisk do to the unique challenges and the stops and starts. I could see just about anyone gelling as a team at the right time and winning the thing. Maybe we will find something we didn't know we had and get an unforeseen spark or a surprise intangible.

I believe the cost difference was around 25k savings. Now we have cancelled 4 games so far, and I am not sure of the rest of the season. With this in mind, and players and other basketball staff getting affective, I would think JJ and Woodie could chop a small portion of thier salary, to allow private flights vice commercial (all kinds of travelers). At this point, I am not sure C-USA will reschedule any games. The Western Kentucky game (there) would have been a good test, of how we are in a very poor basketball league.

25k Annually or per trip?

Oh, then yeah that's a big expense.
