The NCAA is a joke!
Punishment for cheating is no recruiting one HS for 2 years. LMAO. How harsh!
****************************************************************

Rough news has arrived for the Notre Dame football program, as they’ve received several penalties for recruiting violations.

The NCAA continues to prove it means business when it comes to any and all recruiting violations that take place under their watch. Unfortunately for Notre Dame and head coach Brian Kelly, that’s resulted in some penalties arriving to South Bend.

On Thursday, the NCAA announced Notre Dame indeed has received multiple penalties for its efforts recruiting a player from a Seattle-area high school. College football insider Matt Hayes is reporting the prospect in question is former 5-star linebacker Sav’ell Smalls, who ended up committing to his hometown Washington Huskies in 2020.

Notre Dame won’t be able to recruit a Washington state high school powerhouse until 2023

RE: The NCAA is a joke!
A case of "does the punishment fit the crime?":

"According to the NCAA release, the university, former assistant football coach and NCAA enforcement staff agreed that the former assistant coach had impermissible contact with a prospect when he met privately with the prospect (Smalls) at his high school before July 1 after the completion of his junior year of high school.

During that meeting, the former assistant coach expressed the school’s interest in recruiting the prospect. The former assistant football coach also had exchanged impermissible text messages with another prospect on 10 occasions."

There are also other penalties including: one year probation, a $5,000 fine (wow!), a six-month show-cause order for Todd Lyght, reduced football official visits for the 2020-21 academic year by one, reduced football unofficial visits by 14 days for the 2020-21 academic year, a seven-day off-campus recruiting ban for the entire football staff during the 2020-21 academic year.

The connection to Cincinnati - the coach who had the impermissible contact, Todd Lyght, was Notre Dame cornerbacks coach and when he was fired (his firing doesn't seem to revolve around his recruiting violations), was replaced by............................. Mike Mickens.

Isn't Todd Lyght from Greenville, Ohio?

Just saying, it wouldn't hurt UC to harvest that area a little better.

Just ask LaSalle Thompson what they can do? They told him you can go to UC but you will never be eligible!

RE: The NCAA is a joke!
Everybody knows that if a G5 school did the same thing they'd get the book thrown at them.

Been doing so for decades. See the famous quote:

"The NCAA's so mad at Kentucky they'll slap another two years on Cleveland State."

- Jerry Tarkanian
