The financial woes in college athletics are minor compared to the overall crisis in college funding.

Imagine a W&M that would fire a coach after a 7-3 season or firing a coach who went 68-34 in his eight years. First world problems.

RE: COVID-19
Not only was he 7-3, but they were ranked in the top-25 for most of the year, played in the conference title game, and the coach won conference coach of the year this year. Given budget restraints, this one seems crazy, but rumor from several sources has it that the West Virginia Governor got involved in the decision (though they're now trying to walk that back, I'm guessing because it looks terrible to any potential candidates).

Edit to add:

Holliday's records since his arrival (when he took over for Mark Snyder who never had a winning record at Marshall):

5-7
7-6
5-7
10-4
13-1
10-3
3-9
8-5
9-4
8-5
7-3

Like our 60 Minutes exposure, it's great to see us continue that with a webinar like this one. Very proud that Rowe is out there leading and aligning with the best and brightest.

Just curious, do you work in the health care field?

One of my sister's is a nurse in Georgia, she got the first shot a few weeks ago.

I think I will be waiting for several months.

Northern VA has moved to "1b" which includes school teachers and staff. I do some work on the side in one of the school systems so I got it that way.

My normal job is with the fed gov and we are also supposed to be getting some vaccines but so far they haven't shown up yet (and when they do show up, it seems like we aren't expecting to get very many, at least initially).

I wish my parents were able to get it before me as they are over 65, but I don't have any control over that, so it is what it is. I hope this at least gets the kids back into school.

Similar experience to you. I'm a fed and am eligible, but my agency has no vaccines for us or a timeline when they will. I ended up getting vaccinated, but it was because I nagged my local county health department. They were moving on to the next phase and, I guess, felt sorry for me. My wife is a teacher and since there is the big push to have all kids back to school by March 1st, she is scheduled to get hers today.

RE: COVID-19
No offense to any here though of all those professions who took on so much risk early on, teachers as a general rule were at the back end of the train. It’s a bit irritating to hear that this group is among the early groups now for the vaccine as it sounds in VA and DC. I have a 94 year old mother in Virginia who has still heard nothing on where she could get one.

I don’t know all the details by State but I think the approach of servicing the most vulnerable makes most sense, those over 65 as a start. That appears to be the direction in Florida and Texas.

Not a surprise, but here in NY, there is a complex system. The vaccine is hard to find and you have to fill out a lengthy questionnaire to even schedule an appointment for 60-120 days down the road. The skeptic in me assumes if you are a government bureaucrat here, you are likely at the top of the list.

I don't know the details for VA, but in MD where I live, your mom is immediately eligible in phase 1a. The reason teachers and other lower risk people are getting the vaccine is that the vaccine has been available for weeks for health care workers, high risk, and 1st responders. They've moved on to the next phase. Has she/you contacted the health dept to register? In my experience, the only way they seek you out is if they are in an assisted living facility. That was the experience of my mom in VA. I agree the registration process can seem confusing, but I found as long as you fit the requirements of the phase, getting in for the inoculation wasn't too bad.

60-120 days down the road does seem a bit extreme, and is not my experience in MD. I called in to enquire last week, got the email yesterday to register, and was inoculated the same day. There wasn't much flexibility on scheduling, but I worked around that. The registration was your basic information and a short questionnaire similar to a flu shot. At least in the current phase, I though the process was as smooth as it could have been. It may become far more delayed and problematic here when the inoculation process is opened up to everyone in the population and there is a massive wave in registration.

To mr j’s point, this site is very helpful:

https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/covid-19-vaccine/

Your mother should be eligible, I would dig in here for more information.

My 80 yo dad wondered why he, living self-sufficiently in a 55+ apt, hadn't received his vaccine. Health Dept isn't going to go around like a census recorder knocking on doors. If we want schools open to in-class instruction, of course we need school personnel vaccinated.

This site is good. From this site, you need to click on health departments at the top menu and then go to your specific local health district. They will have links to forms to complete to get on their list. Fill out the form and wait to hear back. I got mine last week as a mental health provider, but it took work and persistence to make it happen.

It shouldn't be this hard, and the elderly population is the one that can't navigate this stuff as well. My 83 year old mom is getting her shot in James City County today, so that is good news.
