I thought maybe we could keep track of all the comings and goings in one centralized thread. I'll start off with some Rice football news.

Rice
transferring out - Blaze Alldredge, LB (headed to Missouri)
transferring in - Tre Patterson, WR (from New Mexico), Jake Constantine, QB (from Weber State)

Although, I am not a fan of the 247 site vs. Rivals with 247 giving all G5 recruits 3 stars. 247 did a great job putting this transfer portal database together.

Odu has some p5 coming in and a few going out. Still a little shaking up from new coaches coming in. And I believe some more to come over spring.

Marshall

Out: Derrek Pitts, S (NC State). Not a surprise by any means, didn’t travel to the bowl game and it wasn’t because he had opted out. Was a transfer from WVU. He is a local kid here.

In: Billy Ross, OL (North Carolina). Local kid who started several games early in his career at UNC. Expected to anchor a tackle spot immediately.

Can someone please show Seth Littrell where the "Transfer Portal" is located?

It's pretty good and it's updated frequently which is nice. But it's not really '2021 transfers' in some cases. For instance for Rice, they list the 2 incoming transfers that I mentioned. But the outgoing players are listed as Alldredge, WR Chris Boudreaux, TE Jonathan Sanchez and DB TyRae Thornton.

Thornton said he was transferring back in August so that's not a 2021 transfer. Boudreaux and Sanchez might be new additions to the portal after the 2020 season was over, but neither played for Rice this season really. I doubt either end up at a D1 school - maybe they'll play one more season for a FCS team or D2 school?

From the ones listed on the USM page it appears USM made out better than what we lost based off the players "rankings". Of the 6 incoming players only one (.8132) has a player rating lower than the best one we're losing

He just needs to follow his current players, they are very familiar with it. Ogunmakin hit the portal just this morning. Its as if coaches are sitting at a UNT players auction trying to decide if they want to bid on one or not.

(And yes, we've got some going in too) Such is the life the P5 has designed for the G5 farm system.

UNT has a disconcerting amount of players going into the portal but many are players we would have lost anyway to graduation in a normal year. They are taking advantage of the bonus year granted by Covid.

What is more alarming is that there are not the same amount of players coming back in.

Charlotte has gained seven transfers so far including a four star qb that will fit nicely in the system.

We’ve lost several guys including Crawford the big ol, and a couple of complimentary wr’s, but at this point graduation and nfl ambitions will hit us harder than the portal.

I was told by a fellow Roadrunner that they often just rejoin the team. He said that some guys enter the transfer portal just to test the waters a bit, but don't necessarily always absolutely want to leave.

They learn a tough life lesson early in life. Nothing is guaranteed.

The problem is once they enter the portal their scholarship does not have to be honored. There are going to be ALOT of guys standing around with no scholarship offers when the music stops. I have read a few articles explaining the problem which is exacerbated by the free year of 2020 so quite a few seniors are not leaving.

Rice doesn't take back anyone that enters. The policy is different from school to school.

You've gotta remember also that when a player's scholarship isn't renewed for any reason that player is likely going to 'enter the transfer portal'. There are some good players in the transfer portal, but there are also a lot of washouts who were effectively cut from their team, regardless of their recruiting rank.

Here's what happened to some Troy players in last summers transfer portal:

12 players entered the transfer portal.

One got a P5 offer.
Two got an FCS offer.
Two got a Division II offer.
One got a JUCO offer.

The other six went back home with no college to attend. Troy's head coach didn't honor their scholarships after entering the portal.

Sometimes it works out... but I do wonder what the percentage is of players who enter the transfer portal that wind up getting left in purgatory.

Some sportswriters and I were having this very discussion 3 months ago, their input was that P5 transfers 100% get picked up, G5 50% new home, 50% go home
