RE: Arizona quarterback To Memphis
As was noted earlier, the use of 'X' refers back to ancient Greek use of the letter 'Chi' to refer to Christ. Thus, 'Xmas' is a shortened version of Christmas, and should not be interpreted as taking Christ out of Christmas.

I do not use this form myself, and do not like seeing it because too many think it is disrespectful. BTW, I am a product of Catholic schools thru High School, also. And there were very few disciplinary issues in our schools, as well. And we had to make confession once a week, too! Boy, did I hate to do that!

I'm Catholic and I am not illiterate so I know what the X signifies. I never use Xmas but I don't whine and cry when someone else does neither.

Try to keep up... Xmas takes the Christ out of Christmas, just like Silverfield took the QB out of Arizona.

Someone may have already posted this… I don’t see it anywhere though.

Ok I'll repost the holiday sentiment.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!

02-13-banana02-13-banana Thank you !!!! Keep Christ in Christmas.

I never paid attention to the whole Xmas deal until I was older.

But you are right it is disrespectful to just replace it with an X.

Absolutely!

I really never thought I would change my religion because a nun hit me with a ruler if I did something wrong. One observation me and my friends did make was that when we went from 8th grade in Catholic school to 9th grade in public school is was like repeating our 8th grade all over again. Not sure anyone else had that experience but I did....especially in math.

I felt that way when I transferred from Shelby County Schools to Memphis City Schools in the middle of my 10th grade year. Might have been the two schools vs. the school systems, but there's a reason Memphis City Schools eventually abandoned their charter and performed a coup on Shelby County Schools.

Well, there is a little more to it than just that. I had a nun take a ruler to my hand and beat me with the metal edge that was used to shear paper and beat me with it until she broke the ruler and my hand was bleeding. In front of our entire class. I was in the 4th grade.

When I got married it was outside the church which is a nono. After my divorce my parents encouraged me to see their priest to get the marriage annulled in the catholic church. I did and the guy went through the process with me. That tab was $3500. I said no thanks.

RE: Arizona quarterback To Memphis
hey...whatsa matter with you..? Don't you wanna buy your way thru the pearly gates...? lol

Back in the day, rich people used to buy indulgences from the Catholic Church which guaranteed them a free God pardon for all their sins in advance. lol

One particularly well-known Catholic method of exploitation in the Middle Ages was the practice of selling indulgences, a monetary payment which, supposedly, absolved one of past/future sins and/or released one from purgatory after death. https://www.pbs.org/faithandreason/theog...r%20death.

Talk about throwing away your money. lol Purgatory no longer exists.

Ike went to Catholic grade and High school, Ike needed discipline and guidance and is grateful for the guidance He received from the Nuns and Priests. Ike believes these people are a BIG reason for his success in life.
Merry Christmas all. Ike can watch Christmas shows all day but,
He is much to busy working the street for a nugget of information.

I transferred from NY to Shelby County schools as a Junior...

And yes it was very different...New information in the sciences and Math. But not challenging at all...Would essentially give you answers to the test before exam day...

Interesting. I never had any problems with nuns or priests. Except that I got an exception education in Catholic schools. One thing I did discover about the Catholic church is....if you don't like what you hear from one priest...find another one and you will probably get a totally different opinion. As an example...if you want a really Liberal point of view....ask a Jesuit. I could go through a lot of stories but....finding the right priest....and recognizing that they are all human and therefore can have different points of view....is part of figuring things out.
