Some of you really stuck it to the man by boycotting.

Drew a 16.8 overnight rating...9% increase from last year and appears to be the second highest viewership ever.

It's a good point. If you want things to change, stop watching. Although, I watched and very much enjoyed. Mostly because I am extremely annoyed by Ohio State fans.

I didn’t watch because I was just not interested. It’s like watching same cast of characters year after year. In 7 years, there has only been 10 different teams to participate in it. It’s boring. The worst post season of any team sport professional or collegiate. I will start watching when it expands, and I really don’t think 8 teams would make it any better. It probably needs 16 or 24 teams to eliminate all the disputes and keep players from opting out. The players want to compete, if it means something. It needs to expand.

Percentage of teams that make the playoffs
FCS 24 of 127 teams = 18.9%

NCAA basketball 68 of 350 teams = 19.43%

NCAA baseball 64 of 297 teams = 21.55%
(The most underrated postseason IMO)

MLB - 8 of 30 teams = 26.66%

NFL - 14 of 32 teams = 43.75%

NHL - 16 of 31 teams = 51.61%

And the FBS?
FBS 4 of 130 teams = 3.08%. <<<What’s that? Garbage!!

It was good to see a Heisman winner really prove that he deserves the award.

Rate that right up there with Joe Biden’s “then you ain’t black.”

I’m willing to bet those who boycotted here aren’t Nielsen households.

Why is it that someone not watching the game is hurting your feelings? You shouldn't care. Did you watch it? Did you enjoy it? Good for you. I didn't watch it, I enjoyed doing my woodworking. Good for me.

Yes.
When I read boycott discussions, instead of posting "Do you have a Nielsen box on your set?" I practice my breathing, in with anger, out with love, and I feel better for it.

For the record I didn't watch a single snap. But that's more family dynamics and early alarm time than any night of protest.

I wasn’t excited about the game because it’s always the same team and I thought Alabama would win easily. I did watch most of it because I like football......and I bet on Bama.

Well, that's actually been the norm recently - Derrick Henry had a big game in 2015 when Alabama beat Clemson for the title, and Joe Burrow had a big game when LSU beat Clemson for the title last year as well. Even Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield played well for Oklahoma in their 2017 and 2018 playoff game losses.

The last Heisman winner to really get stuffed in his bowl game was Lamar Jackson vs LSU in the 2016 Citrus Bowl.

The "Heisman Bowl Game Curse" seems to have abated, for a while at least.

Hopefully TPTB will realize that everybody wins if you allow all participants to at least control their own destiny instead of feeling like "the fix is in."

What most people who argue against this fail to appreciate is that college football doesn't need the diehards to tune in. Most are going to turn in to watch college football no matter who's playing. But to get the highest ratings, you need casual fans, and they're more likely to tune in when they they have a vested interest.

There's an ancillary benefit to doing this, too. When every conference champion has a path to a playoff, suddenly casual fans are going to give a crap about who wins a conference they otherwise wouldn't. You can bet that fans around the country would care about who wins the AAC (or the MWC, or the MAC...) if they thought the champion of THEIR league had a chance to play these teams in the playoff. And, as they saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats.

I should have added - you can see a similar effect with ESPN's baseball broadcasts. They kept forcefeeding us every Yankees/Red Sox game until people finally got so fatigued that they stopped watching. Now the ratings have gotten so bad that ESPN cut way back on their baseball broadcasting. If we keep getting forcefed the same teams, not because they're not worthy but because they pre-determined that nobody else IS worthy, college football is headed for the same fate...
