I wouldn't until the new cafeteria is finished. It can turn mahogany colored because of the clay dirt during construction lol.

Yeah, my kids have commented and made fun of the water in the pond multiple times. But my middle kid there said that he heard that a student pulled a 4lb. bass out of there. But I find that very hard to believe. The pond is only a few years old.

RE: Liberty University Facilities Thread
Just got word today from a rep from the Army Corp of Engineers that the Camp Hydaway Lake expansion project is still on track. The environmental assessment must be completed and there should be no issues with that. The permit decision should be made soon.

Do you think they’ll still call it Camp Hydaway Lake or will they change the name to Liberty Lake to capitalize on all the marketing value it will have?

I think they should go with Lake Liberty (Liberty Lake). They can change the name of that pond on campus.

Although a month plus late, this is good to know. What's good is that area will eventually have good reception lol. One thing that has been out of the public eye is the school of engineering. I wonder if they'll start that along with the new cafeteria. I notice that LU liked to start 2-3 projects around time so it could make sense. There may be another project that could possibly start (not including camp Hydaway lake). Maybe the indoor softball facility? To answer your question, I'm not sure of they'd change the name since it would make the locals feel more comfortable to visit. The locals have not been very supportive of the school but that has been getting better. Hope to hear more about the progress along with the airport expansion(s) for the school of aeronautics.

Don't forget that there's still more projects to be done from Liberty's master plan:

https://issuu.com/vmdoarchitects/docs/li...aster_plan

Liberty has room to expand for residents and academic buildings. There's an idea to remove and expand residential and academic buildings on Candlers Mountain shopping center, plus more residential dorms along the road passing the indoor track facility and lead to Odd Fellowship road(another construction map has hospitality and other commercial details around that area). Then we still have land that are just parking spaces but could easily be transitioned into necessary space. Finally, we still have the graduate campus. That discussion has died down, but they were still moving dirt from other projects up the mountain near the possible campus location. School of Medicine has a few graduating class, so there might be more medical facilities coming in a few years (3-5). These are just speculations, but there's already some proposed projects that are now established (ex: arena, Williams stadium expansion, new cafeteria[soon], school of engineering[soon]).

RE: Liberty University Facilities Thread
A school of engineering would be great and is supposed to go on south campus.
I want a school of agriculture too.

According to the 2030 plan a school of nursing is going up where the current ROT is.
They are also supposed to put another pond on the very south side of campus behind south tower.
And another campus chapel will be built on the south end.

RE: Liberty University Facilities Thread
I hope they separate the schools and not cramps those field of study in one building. That was our issue before and we should not go back to dysfunctional ways. I don't think south campus will be as identical to what is described in the plan. I'm surprised that we do not have a school of Agriculture already. They should build the school building on the south east side of campus across from the bridge. It would be nice to re-open and expand on the farm that they had so that student can learn and do research in their labs and outside on the farm property. I would hope that they build two more commons on the east side first before they close and renovate the entire south campus(since that would take 2-4 years to build some academic and residential buildings along with a car garage). You are correct with the new nursing and exercise science building(although I hope they separate that idea and build a decent side school facility for exercise science/health (good area for that is the parking spot area between the bookstore and school of business since it will be near the athletic precinct. Might as well build a better bookstore and then later add some Flames store on campus for students in north campus, south campus (once completed) and on east/grade campus. Most of this can be completed by 2030.

I’d assume new construction would be on East Campus, maybe North Campus (but that would infringe on LCA) or else purchase land north of Candlers Mountain Rd. (501). Whatever it takes to not overcrowd and lose the aesthetic of the beautiful campus.

Speaking of LCA, where do they play football?

I'm hoping they'll do that a couple weeks after graduation when everyone is gone. I hope that the cafe, Williams stadium expansion and [maybe] the school of engineering.

I hope we get a lot more fans to come to the games. Expansion is great but if only 20,000 show up, it won't look very good with a half empty stadium. 2019 attendance was 18,272. Our current capacity is what, 30,000? We have a long ways to go before we get close to selling out.

IIRC 25K capacity. That includes some people in the end zone section.
Putting seating in the end zone adds a few thousand.

I am guessing capacity will be around 27-28,0000.

It’s interesting, I was sent a survey about stadium seating a week or so before this announcement came out.

It is 25k. The endzone might push it to 30k max. Hugh did an interview (can’t find it) a few weeks ago where he said they expect our first sell out this year. They are doing it because of the home schedule in 2022 which includes BYU and VT. Those will easily sell out 30k.

I think the biggest thing that is being over looked is this likely means the student section will be moved to the endzone. That will free up a lot of prime seats for season ticket holders to buy. It makes a lot of sense and ultimately needs to be done with the P5 teams we’ve been able to secure.

I completely disagree. Liberty should 100% not move the student section.
