To be honest, I don't even remember him as DC 6 year ago.

Good story- maybe change the post headline to "Former" JMU DC though, to prevent anxiety.

Saw this on twitter a few days back and all I could think was just how bad our defense was at the time and wondering how this guy "failed up". Reading that does make a ton of sense though. I also remember MH saying how one of the first things they did when they arrived was simplify the defense.

He was part of the inexpensive staff Withers originally hired. He was a DIII coordinator at John Carroll. Must have really hated ( or more likely was handcuffed by) Withers, cause he returned back to John Carroll after one year.

It seems like there are always landing spots for unsuccessful coaches.

I still don't get the UMD Mike Locksley hire a couple years ago.

His Head Coaching record at New Mexico was 2-26 before he got fired 4 games into his third season. He had a sexual harassment case settled against him. He got into an altercation with an assistant.

Goes to coach under Sabin and turns into a hot candidate.

How can you overlook that 2.5 years of garbage/baggage? That's the best they could find?
