Scruggs and Freeman leaving is going to really hurt recruiting.

Slightly relatedly, it's kind of amazing how far Bob Diaco seems to have fallen from grace. He won the Broyles award at ND after leaving UC with BK. After flaming out as HC at UConn he's gone to Nebraska, Oklahoma, Louisiana Tech and Purdue for one shot seasons with each. Now Purdue has announced he's not returning. Despite our success with a previous DC fired by Purdue, Diaco doesn't seem to be on the radar at all these days.

Diaco rode Manti Teo to that award, then he had to actually coach again and ended up showing his true colors. He is just an awful coach.

Diaco was dreadful when he was here. Other than that year he has played to the back of his card at the 5 stops since.

Any links to this? I've been browsing around and haven't seen that info specifically but there's a ton of threads it might be in. Heck they've even got a whole thread speculating on Ahmad Gardner entering the portal.

Hope they're as on top of it as the Michigan state boards.

Only at UC can we lose a DC and the impact feels like we lost the HC.

Lol. No, this isn't like the MSU situation at all, but the false equivalency can reign in your mind if you'd like it to be.

And Hawkeye, its on Purdue's board that they're targeting Elston for DC and the safeties coach has been confirmed to Texas. Speculation on both ND's 247 and Rivals pages that Freeman would bring guys from UC with him (though obviously thats the same as us saying it here).

A neighbor who spends half of the year in Northern Michigan has an award hanging on his wall for being the Michigan State athletic donor of the year a few years back. Gets to go with the basketball team on their charter when they play over seas and got a seat when they played that game on the aircraft carrier. Connected guy. They were told internally CLF accepted and it would be announced the next day. Next day CLF had a change of heart. Caught everyone in East Lansing unprepared.

The old right mid when I was playing now works up at MSU...he essentially said it was a Cronin-UNLV situation. ADs got on the plane with him as MSU's coach and got off it as UCs coach. That was the main reason why I was so tilted that day, and why I was so friggin shocked when it didn't end up that way. MSU was about to cancel the Tucker interview when they got the call from Fickell.

Exactly like when sparty came calling.

Maybe we lose everyone the board seems to fear. And still have our coach for year 5 and an incredibly talented roster. That's something.

As with msu last year I'll say.... let's see how things play out. Relax.

We need to continue to overspend until 2025 to be positioned for realignment. If we do not get a call up then start retrenching the spending.

Agreed...in 2025, we will either be making $40M/year more, or we'll know for certain that we've got no shot and can roll things back.

RE: Freeman to the Irish
I say if Freeman comes after anyone here We need to take Mickens if Fickell likes him. Looks like 247 has a list of candidates for the DC. Not a member so don't know who they are. Maybe Fickell had a top 10 list already and we will find out quick who he has asked. He had to know Freeman was going to leave sooner or later so he would have been smart to start a list of replacements early.

IMHO by 2025 there is a going to be a new conference structure in CFB. Not sure what it is exactly going to look like, but it will be different and be better for us.

Am I misremembering or did Scruggs have to be convinced to take the D line coaching job last year b/c he preferred his spot as a hands-off mentor? If so, seems like going to ND just to climb the coaching latter might not interest him.

Fick never agreed to terms with Michigan State. They interviewed that morning, the Michigan State folks left and he went to church with his wife. They talked it over that afternoon/evening and he called the "inner circle" over to his house that night to let them know he was staying. There was nothing to "sleep on". He went to bed that night knowing he had decided to stay at Cincinnati...

Randomly heard you on the radio the other day as I never listen to sports talk. You did a very good job and it was nice to hear your thoughts on UC. Hope you’re on the air more.
