Yup. we should only play our bad players so none of the good ones get poached.

I like your take. I'm a little higher on Edwards and less so on Strickland at this time. Only at this time. I'm very high on both of them but they are adjusting to the transition to college ball. Strickland is great on defense but is struggling just a bit to get into a flow on the offensive end imo. I think he will grow into a stud this year. Amadi is obviously flourishing.

On a bigger note, look at that lineup. Let's not forget the impact guys we have that are Sophomores and Freshman. I think the pieces are coming together and we are well suited going forward. And that includes this year. They are still adapting to college ball as well as new teammates. I'm optimistic that this mix will gel nicely.

Highlights of this game up on JMUspots

Amadi has enough air time from this one game to fill his own reel.

He should be fun to watch.

I like Strickland at point because he doesn’t look for his shot. We have enough guys looking already which is why we see so many forced threes. We need a point that can penetrate and then dish. Strickland does this. In addition, he plays solid defense and makes his free throws. He also dives for loose balls and gives max effort the entire time he is in.

Who else is afraid that because of new transfer rules, Amadi will be wearing a different color uniform next season?

Isn't Amadi from Greenville, Clemson's backyard? I hope Amadi is angry and anti Clemson b/c Clemson did not offer out of HS.

Amadi could be a 18/10 stat stuffer as a freshman against CAA teams by the end of this season.

agree, if I am Coach By, I would stop playing him and hide him.

I'm afraid of a potential transfer too

If we can keep him for four years, he could be putting up nutso stats by his junior/senior year

I like Nations starting 5, with Christmas #6 first off the bench.

Not sure what you’re seeing in Edwards. He definitely should not be starting, and is #8 off the bench (at best) on my team.

Transfers are a bigger part of athletics these days. "Step right up, and join the player portal." There are coaches that will be better at player retention than others. Player retention was certainly a weakness of Matt's. Hopefully coach By will create an environment that leads to fewer transfers than other programs. Time will tell. Would be interesting to see how many key transfers he lost at Georgia Southern.

Maybe my eyes are deceiving me. But I feel like he is in the flow of the game. Seems to have good court awareness, is aggressive and confident without forcing, and is battling for boards on the defensive end. I've watched every game and I've been more impressed each game with him. It's a little bit of that intangible "glue" guy sort of thing. Seems like a well rounded player, especially for a Freshman (who has made a few Freshman mistakes). Not sure he should be a starter either. But I see plenty of minutes of floor time and definitely not #8 off the bench in my early take.

I agree with many on the boards, including '84, that Christmas could be one of the best on the team, and even league. I think his biggest obstacle is his consistency/confidence. He seems a to play a block of good games, followed by another block where he's hardly noticeable. He needs to keep shooting, and realize he's not going to hit every shoot. He certainly could be all CAA, but he needs to not so easily lose his confidence

He has one of the highest 3pt attempt rates on the team while also having one of the lowest Free throw rates. He's a great mismatch, but seems to have the opposite mentality of someone like Amadi right now. If that changes going forward, he'll be more consistent and likely earn more playing time in doing so.

I had not checked the stats when I mentioned Edwards earlier. I went back to check to see if I was way off.
Turnovers are too high (16) and free throws are a headache (.478). I guess I'm giving him a Freshman pass on those with my eye test.

But, 19 assists, 5.4 boards avg. , 4-9 3-pt shooting (.444) and 20 of 47 (.426) overall from the floor. I think those are good numbers and I especially like assists/rebounds. He's not Amadi ... but neither is Lewis. If I could dunk/explode like Amadi I would be a first pick at my local gym!

He can shoot free throws. Beyond that, he gets pushed around on defense and has no presence in the paint on offense. He is a complete project. He needs to gain weight and strength.

Mensah is a strange one. I understand why he's not playing, but I feel like he's someone we should invest court time with. With his size and talent you could see what a huge upside he has. Not sure 1.5 season is enough time to get him to where he needs to be. I'll trust Coach B on this one whichever way he goes.
