At this point, our only road to the NCAA tournament is winning the conference tournament. The good new is I do expect this team to be much better come March, especially if we keep installing the new offense. We have the talent to run through our conference tournament, it is just a matter of whether they can put it together or not.
We can withstand at least 2 more losses within conference and that will get us an at large easily...At least a 9 seed.
But 14-2 is a tough ask with the way we have been performing
Yeah, it makes no sense for those kinds of "only road to the NCAA tournament" statements at this point in the season. It happens every year, someone makes that absolute claim, and it's just not true.
We can theoretically rattle off a 10-game streak of definitive wins, and see our numbers jump into the picture.
History says it won't happen. But there is still another road to the tournament.
I think when a lot of people like me state it is with the realization that there are other ways. Ala, we could win out the regular season and make the tournament. I just see that is beyond improbable. Or even finishing out the regular season with just two more losses does not seem realistic at this point.
Perhaps, the more appropriate way to state this is to say, IMO our only reasonable/realistic road to the NCAA tournament is to win the conference tournament.

RE: NCAA NET Rankings out now
The problem with "other ways" this season is that the AAC has very few Q1 opportunities & there are no OOC opportunities to help improve the AAC NET ratings by comparison with rankings of other conference schools. This means the bias in favor of several other conferences is "baked in". So practically speaking there aren't others ways available other than to win the AAC tourney - although I suppose it's possible since the games are yet to be played that Memphis might beat UH twice, might beat SMU twice etc & beat Tulsa at Tulsa. So there is that but.... given the current standing of AAC schools in the NET rankings make even a dominating run thru the remaining regular season without winning the tourney less than a sure path to the tourney

You think it is possible for them to 1 bid the AAC...
I just don't see it.

Possible yes, but likely 2 especially if someone other than UH wins the tourney. And if that someone is not the first 2 highest ranked AAC schools, it could be 3 make the tourney. But I'm not hopeful of more than 2 given the baked in bias & no OOC opportunities.

I do not there is any reasonable scenario under which the AAC is a 1 bid league.

Right now Houston has done enough to make it based on OOC.
UCF's OOC work is enough to make it as well but they likely have to at least come in second to get an at large.

Just as much as there is a growing bias on the selection committee by conference, it means we will likely never be a one-bid league.
Even if the AAC deserves to be this season, we'll take an at-large deserving of C-USA or OVC or something.

RE: NCAA NET Rankings out now
KenPom says the AAC would have had 3 bids last year. If so, the conference history looks like this:
2015 - 2 bids
2016 - 4
2017 - 2
2018 - 3
2019 - 4
2020 - 3*
2021 - ?
No way we're a 1-bid league. Average bids is 3. Down years, like this one, likely 2 bids.

As of the last game the Tigers would be an embarrassment in the tournament. Right now don't even look like and NIT team.

RE: NCAA NET Rankings out now
Ike has had a question about Net rankings, what Nets r rated the best, twine, nylon or chain and
Why r the nets white, Ike has never seen a Black net,
Ike thinks a orange ball going through a Black net would be easy to spot.
Just thoughts rambling through IKE's mind on a rainy Friday night
Can Ike get some Hep on this important issue

That “look at me” tomfoolery should be left to the Boise States, Ike.

The boys down the alley have weightier issues to consider. Like: is that a robin? why is a robing hanging around here in January?
