Tubby never had that...

Pastner lost that...

Pastner ?--Is that the guy that took us to our last 4 trnys ?

Nah. He's the guy WE drug to his ONLY 4 NCAA tourneys.

I sure wish we would hurry up and drag Hardaway to one.

He only missed his first year.

That's one way to look at it, I suppose.

It would be much easier if that clown Pastner hadnt turned us into what he did before we chased him away.

Year 1 and Year 2 can both be tied to Pastner\Tubby...

Year 3 is on Penny.

And if we honestly compare...

Year 1 Penny Team vs Year 1 Pastner team...I would say it is pretty close

Year 2 Penny Team vs Year 2 Pastner team...That is close as well...If Pennies team was in CUSA it could have easily won that tourney as well.

Now Year 3 there is a huge gap.

RE: Gregg Marshall - Is he on the short list in our AD's pocket
Penny's year 3 struggles remind me of the Pastner year's 2-3 struggles to get players to play together. Specifically, I remember the 2012 UTEP game at home where Tarik Black was unstoppable. He had 26 points and 10 rebounds. With about 6 minutes left in the game, Will Barton seemed to freak out that he only had 5 points in the game. They did not pass the ball to Tarik the remainder of the game. Will took a bunch of ill-advised shots. The tigers lost a 7-point lead from that point on and lost the game by 2.

This years' team reminds me of that. Hopefully, Penny can get them to put their egos aside and play team basketball.

This is what the clown left us...

#30 attendance, over 12,000 tickets sold per game.

Jeremiah Martin
Dedric Lawson
KJ Lawson
Markel Crawford
Avery Woodson
Nick Marshall

- A national brand
- Very good nucleus of players
- College basketball hotbed
- Great area for recruiting
- NBA arena
- State of the art practice facility, that opened the year after the "clown" left
- Top 30 attendance, ready to keep their tickets, with thousands more ready to get on board if there was a good hire

You would have to be an idiot to think that the program was left in anything less than perfect shape for the right hire. Literally, a perfect situation if we make a good hire.

If we had kept him another year, it would have been worse. Maybe not Tubby worse, but we were on a serious downward slope.

Yeah, true attendance had fallen off the cliff already by Pastner's last season. Talks were already starting - for the first real time - about missing the FEF attendance supplement. Remember, there was a late season push to hit the actual attendance mark of 6k to get the minimum bonus. Season tix cancellations were right around the corner.

As almost always...The fans fire the coach. If attendance was still high Pastner would have gotten additional time.

But we didn't so that doesn't matter. Downward slopes also don't matter. Which two times did we sell the most tickets in our history? After Cal was hired and after Penny was hired; both times, when our program was in relative shambles. We have proven that when we hire the right coach, we can get players AND we can sell 16,000 plus tickets per game.

All we need is a coach that can coach. The rest will always be there. Pastner made the tournament in his second season. Cal did NOT make it his second season with Wagner, Wise, Scooter, Massie, Grice, Burks, Barron, and Rice; which is INSANE.

It is idiotic to say that Pastner ruined the program. Pastner left the program with very solid players and more than 12,000 fans that were still paying for tickets to our games. Tubby DID ruin the program on every level. IF Wiseman plays and DJ is healthy, Penny makes it his second season.

There really isn't anything that can keep any program down when it has a good coach; especially ours.

I disagree. Most knew that 2014 was Pastner's last stand. Pastner got 2016 just because you can't fire a coach when he makes the tournament four years in a row, then misses it one year. There was no way he was going to be our coach in 2017 even if attendance was still high.

By 2015, Pastner was putting out feelers for others jobs, and our admin and boosters weren't trying to discourage him from doing so.

Ok, Saban makes a habit out of hiring as a consultant a recent head coach that got fired. Builds cred, loyalty, improves the program... maybe this is an ok idea.

Penny hasn’t shown he’s anything other than a great recruiter. He even does less with talent than Pastner, and that’s saying something. Sadly, he isn’t doing a good job as a coach.

Pastner ? Is that the coach that took us to our last 4 trnys---and has beaten Kentucky/North Carolina/Wk Forest/Nebraska this year----does anyone actually think we would beat any of them ?

Nebraska is 4-7
UNC 6-4
Wake 3-1 (wins over Deleware St., Longwood, and Catawaba)
Kentucky 2-6

Decent name wins but none appear that good this season...

Serious question, would be beat Georgia Tech this season based on what we have seen to date?

KenPom says we would be favored by ~1 pt on a neutral court.
Sagarin says pick 'em
NET doesn't list raw score, best I can find, but has us a full 13 spots ahead of Ga Tech.

So, we could/should. But winning is hard and things are fluid.

This years' team reminds me of that. Hopefully, Penny can get them to put their egos aside and play team basketball.

Where WHO was unstoppable ?

That guy that started for the Lakers but our clown coach wouldn't start him. Then he quit the team because he didn't want to play "monkey in the middle" during practice like that coach requested. Remember who that coach was?

Specifically, I remember the 2012 UTEP game at home where Tarik Black was unstoppable. He had 26 points and 10 rebounds. With about 6 minutes left in the game, Will Barton seemed to freak out that he only had 5 points in the game. They did not pass the ball to Tarik the remainder of the game. Will took a bunch of ill-advised shots. The tigers lost a 7-point lead from that point on and lost the game by 2.
