Penny is the man.
Penny will be fine.
Memphis will be fine.

Ok, Saban makes a habit out of hiring as a consultant a recent head coach that got fired. Builds cred, loyalty, improves the program... maybe this is an ok idea.

Penny hasn’t shown he’s anything other than a great recruiter. He even does less with talent than Pastner, and that’s saying something. Sadly, he isn’t doing a good job as a coach.

The first sentence is not quite fair. Our D has been exceptional under Penny.
The second sentence is ridiculous.
The third sentence is just wrong (recruiting, excitement, relevance, money).

Yes, the defense has been good. But we aren’t winning enough games, and rarely ever beat a good team.

We’ve had incredible recruiting classes but Pastner made the tourney years 2-5. Do you see this team making the tourney? I don’t. Looks like a continuation of the Tubby years. Mid-pack AAC team with no hope of NCAA bid.

Who is excited about Memphis basketball now? I don’t think you’d see a full FedEx Forum now. Also, tell me about relevance? How in anyway are we relevant? I will agree with recruiting, he’s done a great job. But he can’t do anything with the team once he gets them here.

Penny still has the promise of the future to hold him up...(Top 10 class coming in next year...Right now)

Tubby never had that...

Pastner lost that...

Pastner ? Is that the coach that took us to our last 4 trnys---and has beaten Kentucky/North Carolina/Wk Forest/Nebraska this year----does anyone actually think we would beat any of them ?

Nebraska is 4-7
UNC 6-4
Wake 3-1 (wins over Deleware St., Longwood, and Catawaba)
Kentucky 2-6

Decent name wins but none appear that good this season...

Even though the only reason he's still at GT is because they can't afford to buy him out.

Sure I think we would. Not that we obviously can’t lose to anybody. But to act like we wouldn’t have a chance against those teams this year? Pshhhh. None of those would be favored extremely large over us.

We already have a coach on staff who has been fired from his last two low major assistant coaching jobs. Marshall has less baggage than him so let him replace the stop gap asst coach and letMarshall rebuild his stock as an assistant here

No way man. If someone has a kenpom subscription they could check. The lines are usually close. The only one of those that would potentially be double digits would be UNC.

Pastner ?--Is that the guy that took us to our last 4 trnys ?

Nah. He's the guy WE drug to his ONLY 4 NCAA tourneys.

Funny how short memories are. This board screamed from day 1 Josh couldn’t coach, couldn’t beat a ranked team, couldn’t get past the first round in the tourney. Now that he has been gone a few years he beats a few name teams in bad years and he is our coaching model?

Penny is the man.
Penny will be fine.
Memphis will be fine.

Ok, Saban makes a habit out of hiring as a consultant a recent head coach that got fired. Builds cred, loyalty, improves the program... maybe this is an ok idea.

Penny hasn’t shown he’s anything other than a great recruiter. He even does less with talent than Pastner, and that’s saying something. Sadly, he isn’t doing a good job as a coach.

I again ask----does anybody on here TRULY think that we would beat ANY OF THOSE---regardless of record ?

Yes, we would absolutely beat at least one of those teams if we played them all this year.

I sure wish we would hurry up and drag Hardaway to one.

It would be much easier if that clown Pastner hadnt turned us into what he did before we chased him away.
