Guess we just need to meet in the championship game. 04-cheers

That's true. I like playing the Cajuns as it's becoming quite a good rivalry and the game is always a good one. That said, it's also a likely pairing in the championship game so it does create some issues (not saying App is a given...just a likely contender from the East). We missed Arkansas State a couple of years in a row at one point, but I don't remember ever missing Louisiana.

AState given their choice would say Troy which can’t happen with a second choice of Georgia State because it’s the next closest

In the end toughing it out is probably most agreeable

Not sure how our AD feels about this but as far as I'm concerned as a fan I'd like Texas St to be our cross division rival. Savannah has direct cheap flights to Dallas which is a 3 or 4 hour ride to San Marcos so it's not too hard to get to and Texas St always seems to play us close so I have a feeling the game could develop into something special given time.

You could do worse. I view App as a good litmus test to see how well we are progressing. Or not. They're as consistent as they come.

I'm looking at our schedule next year and I'm seeing a tough one. Seriously hope the new OC takes us up a few notches because there's not much in the way of lube next year.

With the coaching changes in the Sun Belt West, I don't think it really matters who they will be missing next year, since they were basically MIA to begin with. Don't know about you guys, but I'm missing football season already. Good thing FCS football starts up in February so they'll be at least something.

I feel pretty much the same way. At the very least, other than USA, any one team is really as good as another as far as western perma-rivals go. May as well keep building something with TXST!

I'm surprised App State isn't missing the Cajuns. They are the only team in the West App hasn't missed yet.

To me this match up has started to develop into a rivalry game since almost every year the game has either Championship implications or possibly national ranking implications. Five games in 3 years and all have been pretty good. and someone gets to swagger off the field.

I agree. At least you come to Lafayette this time. Feels like most the games have been played in Boone.

RE: Who misses who next year in conference football?
I think I’m in the minority and wish we did our schedule Big XII style. I want to play Arkansas St & Louisiana every season. Top 2 teams rematch. We lose 1 non-conference game and that sucks but these weird schedule issues aren’t a problem anymore. I believe it wont be long before power 5 schools try to limit themselves to only 1 G5 school a year, maybe 2. I know Nick Saban is trying to push the SEC in that direction.

I agree, but the SBC needs to continue to win OOC games against other G5 and middling P5 programs for the next decade to build more street cred.

Yeah that’s fair. 2nd best option everyone is assigned a permanent rival to help balance the Troy/South stuff.

I’d like if we did permanent cross division rivals.

How would you pair the other 8?

stAte/App St
ULM/GaSo
TxSt/GaSt
Louisiana/Coastal

I personally would rather the Cajuns and Mountaineers be a permanent game, but the battle of A-States is a good one.

Hard pass on 9 game conference schedule. No other G5 league does it.

Fair point. I just hate having teams left off every so often. Arkansas State and UL are games I want yearly on top of South.
